Me personally would rather have a federal offense against somebody for ripping me off then a 3rd party who really don't give a ****
This is just great, now I am all stressed out, I sold over $2,000 of merchandise this week.
Now I guess I have to tranfer all the money out of my paypal...
thanks for the info.

Yeah, Paypal does suck!! I have been ripped off twice through them and both times they told me they could not do anything about it. The first time I lost about $200 from my paypal balance, the guy never shipped anything and they said since he has no money in his account I'm screwed. The second time a guy sent me bogus cams and paypal said since they shipped the item they couldn't do anything, at least I learned my lesson from the first time and used my CC and they refunded the money. The moral of the story is always use a credit card with paypal that way you can dispute it with them because paypal won't do ****. I can't believe a company makes it so easy for people to rip others off but hard on the honest people, I don't even know why I still use paypal
As for your situation sorry about what happend hopefully there is such a thing as karma and they will get what's coming!
thank you for letting me vent,

I only use my American Express to pay for stuff though Paypal because they always back you up. And as soon as someone pays me for anything I deposit the funds in my bank immediately. I've never trusted Paypal.

Its all about being a smart buyer, and seller.. I have bought/sold over $10k in stuff using paypal... You really need to protect yourself, but paypal is unfortunately the safest way to do business.. I will NEVER deal with anyone who insists on checks or COD, its too easy to give forged checks that take 2 weeks to clear.
Generally when I buy something, I only deal with people I know, or reputable in some way, or I have a way to gain some sort of recourse. When I sell items, I immediately move the money out of paypal into my bank account, then into a different account not linked to paypal. Should there be a dispute, they will have to notify you and they can't reverse the transaction back from the bank.
FWIW Paypal is not a bank, but they are covered under the same rules and regulations as anyone else that does escrow transactions.

A few weeks ago I won an ebay auction for a stock evo 8 turbo, manifold, and O2 housing. I paid via paypal and awaited the guy to give me a tracking number. About 3 days after I paid I received a response saying that he was shipping the turbo on Friday, March 31. According to UPS, it would take 5 business days to deliver the turbo. Throughout the following week I e-mailed him on a daily basis asking for a tracking number. I received no response from him. By the next friday, no response and no turbo. I was fed up enough to file a claim against paypal. They gave him 10 days to respond, otherwise I would get my money back. At this point, it was no big deal if paypal was going to give my money back. 10 Days after the claim, April 17th, Paypal decided the claim in my favor due to no response. Even though the claim was in my favor, paypal could only refund me $175 of the $230 I sent the guy since he had "insufficient funds" in his paypal account. Glad I got some money back, but still very frustrated this guy gets away with my money.
The name on the paypal account was Kenya Harbin, some background searches turns up that he is 53 years old. I am wondering how the hell somone like this could rip me off. Further investigation through ebay yeilded the following resutls:
Email: fivefifteen@swbell.net
User ID: sauceyevo
Name: Braden Harbin
Company:
City: Fort Smith
State: AR
Country: United States
Phone: (479) 651-8579

Some searches on this forum appear that he's associated with polk performance, supposedly their EMS tooner.
I am very frustrated that someone like that would do this. I would more expect it from the scum here in socal.
Just wanted to let you all know THIS GUY is still ripping people off.

FWIW...Amex is it's own financial institution. VISA and Mastercard are not.
I have a good buddy who's sold tens of thousands of toy collectibles on eBay over the last ten years. He's had his fair of problems with PayPal. He told me to never tie your eBay account into your bank account. He recommends using a CC because, if PayPal doesn't have your back, the CC company will.

sorry to hear that you got scammed mate. the only way to protect yourself from paypal is having 2 accounts. i paid for an item and never recieved it, took paypal 3 days to return my money from the guys account, after weeks of dispute with the seller why my item was not sent. because paypal can withdraw funds from your registered account, make sure you have 2 bank accounts with different company. if you recieved a paypal for your item it goes into your paypal account. move that money to your primary account which is registered under paypal then move it again to your secondary account where paypal cannot access it. this is usually what most scammers do but i needed it to protect myself from people as paypal just withdraws from your primary account without notify you
