Okay well it's a quick story so here goes, I'm just looking for advice.
I have planned on getting an '05 Evo for a few months, I'm in the process of selling my Lightning and will have this taken care of in the next week. Last night a scenario unfolded. I'm selling my truck to Oasis Ford in New Jersey because I know the financal advisor there and he is giving me private party list for it about $22.5-$23. I can't turn that down so most likely that is my plan.
When my dad went there(the guy is his friend,) he showed him the '05 STi and my dad liked it much better than the Evolution. He decided to get ask some question about pricing and stuff. Sticker on the few they had there ranged from $32.5-$34.5, so he wanted to know what he could get one for. Friend pulled a few strings said about $26-$28. My father called me and the price kind of rung a bell in my head. The kicker of the story is the key word WARRANTY. I don't have to worry about warranty issues if I buy the STi from him.
So my dilemma, I love the Evo. Definitely favor it's looks and performance over the STi. The STi is obviously the runner up to the Evo on my favorite car list(that I can afford of course haha.)
If you were in my situation would the idea of no warranty trouble and better dollar value sway you decision? Or would you opt to stick with the Evo? Any reasoning you have for this would be super. Thanks to anyone that takes time to read this and give me advice.
I know I might run into some one sided answers here but that's okay.

I learned a long time ago get what ever it is that you want. If you really want the evo get it. Don't just go with whatever is cheaper with in reason of course. Take a look at all of the reviews you hear about the Evo always wins that should tell you something. Best thing to do is test drive both and then figure out which one you want. Either way in the end I think you will be happy.
You could probably get an RS for that same price, or if you really wheel an' deal, get a GSR at that price or slightly higher. I dont think you'd be dissapointed with either machine. I went through the same thing, when I had the DP money for a car, local Suby dealer had a slightly used 04 white/gold rims that I LOVED. Test drove both cars, stuck with the EVO. They are so similar yet so different. The way I'd describe it is different approaches to the same goal. Do you want neck snapping top end? Or eye sucking torque? Give em both a shot (then get the evo lol)

Your getting a good deal on the evo, and that is not the runner up. what is there to think about. Its your decision not your dads, so go with what you want. Warranty issues will exist with both if you are modding it. Get the evo. you took the time to sign up at an evo forum so just do it.
If you've always wanted the EVO then get the EVO because later in your STI, your gonna regret it. Your not gonna be happy. Then your gonna do everything, including dumb things to get an EVO. Stick to your first love as that hunger needs to be fed.
Imagine a pregnant woman, if she craves grapes and you got her oranges...... I guarantee you when she finishes the orange, you will most definitely be heading back to the store with a note super glued to your forehead to buy grapes. Must feed the hunger first or no satisfaction guaranteed.

well i'm just gonna tell you this
i have an 05 gsr and my friend has a 04 sti
its not much less of a car
so if you went with the sti you wont miss the evo that much
since your dad's friend gonna back up the warrenty i would go for it

well my advise is get what you want but dont base it on the warrenty issue. i have heard that "i am going to get the warranty and not mod" well i thought that same thing but you start to hear stories or you race some on with the same car and he beats you, i garantee you will mod your car, hense voiding your waranty. i bought a 2nd gen eclpise thinking it would make me happy, well i hated it and all i did when an evo drove by was stare and almost wreck my car. well i finnaly grew some ***** and dropped money on the evo. the best decision i have ever made. well there is my 2 cents
If the Evo is your number 1 pick then get it. I always wanted a Evo but where I live they never imported one, only the STI. I was interested in the STI but once the Evo 8 was imported I went ahead and got the Evo even though it did cost 12k more than the STI. Get something that you will be happy with and wont regret it one day when you do look back. Like you said.... you favor the Evo on its looks and performance so why would you get the STI?
