competition clutch?

Well, the time to put a clutch in my car is near. The guy down at the local tuner shop is trying to sell me on a company called COMPETITION CLUTCH, they are a sister company of clutch master from what i understand. The price is right and (stage ll for $595)I'm just not sure what kinda quality I'm gonna get out of it. Has anyone had experience with this company? Thanks in advance!

No, Buy an Exedy or an ACT that have been proven over and over and over again.

For that price, buy a trusted name, ClutchMaster, ACT... Your not saving enough to make it worth your while.

I was kinda thinking that, but 600 will only get me a stage l through exedy, but maybe that would be better. what clutch do you guys recomend through ACT?

I'll check out that route too. I'm looking for something thats streetable everyday but strong enough to take some abuse, and last over 25k

That's interesting because RRE told me there wre some issues with the No Name Clutch (didn't go into specifics with me). They just installed an ACT on mine yesterday.

This question gets asked a million times, and will probably get a million different answers. But, I like the exedy twin. I also found it interesting that the new Road & track Speed magazine had a tuner Evo in it. Forgot which one. It had the ACT single plate clutch, and they tested it in the qtr. mile. The shop owner said he could probably shave .3 seconds off the time if it had the Exedy installed instead. However it costs twice as much as the ACT clutch. I think you get what you pay for.

I agreet that you are going to get what you pay for in this situation... however for the money you are looking to spend I would go with the ACT clutch... I have it in my evo and have had no problems with it...Its a little stiff but is definately daily drivable...but here in the next few days if you come into some money (collect insurance money...etc) then get a Exedy twin disc...

www.competitionclutch.com

Man i only wish i was comming into money soon But since I'm not it sounds like the ACT is way to go over the dual plate from competition clutch although they are in the same price range I'm not looking to do R&D for competition clutch. I want to be assured this company is legit. The guy at the shop was telling me that a guy had a falling out with clutch masters and started this new company (competition clutch) but uses all the same specs that clutch masters use. If I do find some extra $ is it worth the 500 dollars extra to get a dual plate clutch, will they last any longer then a single would. BTW I'm also adding a lightweight flywheel on there while its apart.

I went with ACT based upon RRE's recommendation (over their own clutch). I only have 89 miles on it, so it's a little early for feedback. THere's a little chatter which should go away once the clutch is broken it. I do have a weird movement in the transmission, possibly from the rear diff area. RRE is looking into whether the MR mounts are different from the regular Evo mounts.

This clutch certainly does grab, though. I got it for insurance reasons, but I think it would be pretty good for drag racing too.

With the stiffer center hub on the disc we were using, a few people were complaining about the coast down gear noise. Now we are just using a ACT organic street disc (which actually looks more stock than the one we were having made) with our No Name Clutch.
