My tranny (5spd) started out a little notchy, but once it broke in, its butter smooth compared to T56 cars like the vette, viper, etc. It ground lightly a couple times, my fault though. Also, it tends to be a little rougher when cold, not surprising though.

Overall I think its a pretty good trans if you treat it right. The synchros might be a little weak on some examples, but the gears themselves are strong as heck. It sucks some of you guys have had bad experiences, but to me, there are only a few transmissions Ive experienced that I like better.

One other thing, I read somewhere on this site that the trans oil used by mitsu was designed to minimize actual gear wear at the cost of allowing a bit more synchro wear. Apparently there is a tradeoff there when choosing fluid properties for the trans, as someone said.

Back to this skipping gear thing... Going downhill sometimes, very rarely, I shift from 2nd to 4th. Is this really bad for our tranny? This is the first I've heard of something like this.

Ive never heard that either, especially since the corvette makes you skip 2 and 3 on slow starts.

What I have heard is bad though, is doing a fast 5-2 downshift at like 50mph or something of the like, without going through the gears or double clutching.

I can understand why you dont want your car anymore. Are you planning on trading it in and if so how much is the dealer going to give you for it?
