Availabilty of EVO's during the year??
I am hoping I will win the Mitsubishi contest and get mine right now for free.

In SCC this month they tested the EVO. At the end of the article, there was a final excerpt in italics that stated that the EVO is NOT a limited production car and they will build as many as they can sell. This was the first I heard or read about it. Can anyone confirm or deny?

This is not a money-making car for Mitsubishi nor is it intended to be. There is no overiding reason to increase the volume.

Can you imagine how subaru will make money on the STi? Based on JDM prices our's is comparable to the RS unloaded with radio, wheels, and brakes but the Sti is comparable towards their twin scroll with their diffs and spec c forged wheels? What i'm saying is, could low 30's mean $34,987 to even make a profit? Or maybe they just sell it to break even and set the image that they are as good as
?I know i'm comparing apples to oranges but i'm shock that
didn't plan to make money with this car after giving us watered diffs "except rear diffs". I just find it interesting that's all.

Mitsu is trying to make money on the car... they are trying to steal WRX sales... if Subbie wasnt doing so well with the WRX the EVO wouldnt be here. I work for Honda and we own the Mitsu next door. The S2000 does "look" better to the casual person...purists will know and appreciate the evo more...plus the EVO can whup the S2000 (cept on a track maybe). The STi will be limited, not the EVO

BTW
Personally I'm glad we are not getting the fancy diffs.
is in the business to make money, if there are high demands for cars, they will build them. However, supply for the frist few months will be low until production get up and running.
I'll wait two years and pick up a used one for $19,000 w/ 30k on the odometer. By then the US ralliart distribution will be in place & the Mod process will be more written in stone. STI's will be everywhere also. Pontiac GTO's w/ Vortech blowers will be prowling the roads also for 30 grand?? Something to think about?

NA I don't know.
I think anything under 10,000 units a year could be considered 'limited production' But I think there isn't a huge profit to be made by mitsubishi considering the extra work involved in making it. Keep in mind every one starts out as a lancer, then gets 'upgraded' either on the line, or at an assembly facility. I do think its true that they will produce enough cars to meet demand.. I just don't think that the demand will warrant making over 6000 cars a year. This first allocation is of 03 cars, the model year is just about over and odds are, all the cars that are going to be built, are already built, or are in the process. If your a collector, you want to try to get 'First Year' of availability, and earliest production that you can. Or 'Last Year' and latest production. Since we can't say when the last year is.. enjoy whats coming. Keep in mind, how many LANCER's do you see out in the wild (on the road) compared to WRX's, Hondas, Etc.. Even the LANCER is nowhere as common to be seen around my area. I suspect that the odds of seeing an EVO will be low also, unless your in a club for EVO's or Lancers.. I currently drive a Neon.. and THAT car is very common, and the SRT-4 is just a interpretation of the standard neon, nothing special about its appearance except for some cosmetic stuff that can be bolted on to any... You can't say that about an EVO.. Probably be very hard if not impossible to 'FAKE' an EVO from a Lancer. From a collector standpoint, even if alot are produced, how many will survive in original unmodified, or Mint modified condition, and how likely (and cost effective) would it be to take a standard model, and pass it off as the specialty version.. I'm sure a Honda type-R would be easier to fake, and not to mention people would be fooled by the fakes easier.
