My intercooler is takin a beating!!!

I looked at my intercooler the other day and I noticed that its been hit by some little rocks as I was driving is there any way to prevent this, is it affecting my performance or is it okay. is this supposed to happen??? is there a mesh cover of some sort I can put over it????

Thanks for the help.

Unavoidable. Don't worry about it, your intercooler will be fine. Putting a mesh screen over it would restrict airflow.

You can get mesh from home dept and cut it to length, deoending on which type you get, it should have smaller holes in the screen. That should help out some, but rocks, bugs and that such are normal wear and tear on a fmic..

its the stock intercooler, but I don't want it to get dinged up so bad that it does end up restricting air flow or I have to replace it. You think warrenty covers that?

warrenty's cover mfg defects and installation error. they don't cover normal wear and tear. Kinda like asking if it covers replacing the tires.

you could do two things. One, upgrade you intercooler to a bar and plate style like the one from turbo xs. I have it and it's much more durable than the stocker. Two, I know it's hard but, try not to follow other cars, trucks and 18 wheeler so close.

Here's a good write up by someone on this subject:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...rcooler+screen

I bought the exact same mesh, cut to his specified measurement and used on my evo, it's been about 1500 miles since and it's great.

Ya. Mine is all dinged up too. It is simply unavoidable.

You can pull the bumper off and bend the fins back....

Its time consuming but if it really bothers you it is a solution.

Yes, you can use a tweezer or go to your local hardware store and look for a radiator fin rake. Its a thing that looks sorta like a mini comb and you can use it to straighten out your IC fins.
