31,500 miles and finally a problem, not a major one, but a problem no less.

Yet another victim of the infamous carbon fiber clearcoat spots. Took it into the dealer and they had the body shop wetsand/buff to see what they could do as it is at it's early stage. Although they did do some good in making it lighter, less noticeable....the foreman says it is under the clear and will have to be replaced. The mitsu rep should be getting a hold of us soon and on should go a new wing. Well, sorry no pics but I'm sure most of you know what white spots I'm talking about. Damn UV rays, I even wax it pretty frequently.

 

Did you get a quote on what is would cost to replace the clear?

 

at least i wont be suprised when it happens to me. are they warrantying it?

 

Should be warrantied...body shop foreman says it needs to be replaced, he can't do anything to fix it. He told this to the Service mgr, now just waiting to hear back. I don't see why it wouldn't be warrantied, it's an obvious non-abuse problem

 

yup. and i don't think they can just go order parts for you without your concent unless they were paying for them.

I had a couple friends of mine get thier entire wings replaced.. I now am having the same problem with the clearcoat coming off. The service manager is now telling me that Mits isn't warranty'ing the wings any longer.. I told him B/S, because they are just trying to get me to disappear.. I dont get it, they have already replaced all 4 of my Brembo calipers under warranty.. Whats the deal.. So he says that he is gonna call me back tommorrow.. If he keeps messin, I'm gonna get on his azz...

what does it look like when the wing's clear coat looks bad??

 

To the ones that have clearcoat problems on the spoiler: Do you leave your car out in the sun all the time, and not kept in a garage? I'm thinking that this is a heat/UV issue with the spoiler if left in the sun for extended periods of time. Just make sure you keep a nice coat of wax on it once a week if possible.
