EVO going in for major service...

My EVO is going in for a tranny tear down and rebuild of all TSB's and grinding caused from 2nd,4th, and 5th gears. I am on the original clutch so it will be mightey interesting to see what comes out of this service. I am lightly modded and the dealer has not been concerned about my modifications inregards to this issue. I have 33k miles.

My second question is in reagrds to as long as the original warranty is in-tact should Mitsubishi pay for a loaner car while my EVO is in service? Does anyone know. Thanks.

I got a loaner while my car is down. Actually it's being fixed right now and should have it back friday. Getting my second and fifth gear synchro replaced along with the synchronizers. I'm at 33k miles also. Good luck!

Good luck with the loaner Joe! I'd offer up my Murano, but I need it to haul the golf clubs!

I REALLY LIKE THE SIG...nice.

Yeah I wouldn't mind driving a Nissan although I just want to be sure I will be able to drive something.

How do you guys grind 5th? Is it from shifting to 5th pretty fast? Or just normal shifting and it doesn't go in? I almost never shift to 5th fast and have never experienced a grind in it. 2nd gear, however....

Good Luck. I had the same thing done and they managed to mess it up. It came back leaking Trans fluid and the stickshift now dances when its in first gear. It doesn't grind fifth anymore, though.

The only time I ever have problem is when the car is still way cold... and then it grinds in almost every gear unless I take a good 10 seconds to shift.

All it takes is one shift that is bad to mess up the 5th gear syncros. I have never really speed shifted my car. I would imagine that would break things. It is all in where you engage the gear. I have notchy/grinding in every gear it just depends on the conditions. I typically get more grinding when I am trying to take it easy in the car. What A PITA. They will fix it right I am sure. This dealership has 2 out of 12 Diamond Star Exclusive mechanics in the country. I am sure they will get the job done right the first time.

I have been told by many that a loaner should be prvodied. I will call MItsu later to find out the real scoop.
