here is a link to the vid of my transaxle,
its 4MB, may wanna save as, also save as if it doesn't work by just clicking it
you can hear the clicking/grinding after I throttle it a little, not nearly as evident at idle. if any of you has a codec error or something ...sorry I got the codec off my Kodak easy share cd.
also... I tried adjusting that nut as in the above manual pic... it does nothing!

If you lightly push on the clutch pedal does the noise go away OR do you have to push the clutch in almost all the way to get the noise to stop?

just checked, I dont have to have the pedal to the floor to stop the noise, but I do have to disengage the clutch all the way (Have to push the pedal MOST of the way down to stop the noise)

argh... not what I'm wanting to hear....
anyone taken it in for this sound, gotten it worked on and fixed? what is it?
just checked the oil level, cracked it open and beautiful clean Synchroshift II rolled out, so that's fine.

Well I know it's not the news you want to hear...sorry. no one ever wants to hear that news. It's either one of two things -- the TO bearing or other (heh). The TO bearing is usually a high pitched whining noise...where the flywheel like i mentinoed before sounds like gears grinding and it matches the revs of your engine as well. I mean a long shot would be crank walk -- but I doubt that.
kronik is wrong to does not whine it chatters when reving as rpm are dropping. almost all evos have this it is "normal"
kronik stop scaring the poor guy. he is paranoid enough. our cars dont crankwalk!

Mine does this too at idle. If I push in the clutch it stops and sounds great, release it and it sounds kinda abnormal like you have described. I have 30K on the stock clutch and started to notice this last week, not that it has not been there all along.... Seems to drive ok so I have not been too worried...

Yeah I highly doubt your flywheel is coming loose. If you're not too modded, just take it to mitsu and see what they think. On this site people always make me paranoid by telling me something major is wrong. Most of the time people don't know what they're talking about. I'm sure it's just your TOB.
Every evo I have driven with 10k or more has the same sound. Its definately the TO bearing rattling. Mitsu didn't gob enough high temp grease into the thing. My 98 GSX did the same thing until I replaced the clutch and gobbed the new TO bearing with grease.
If its not rattling its probably not fully disengaging....so be thankful that its not smoking your clutch at idle. If it wasn't fully disengaging the car would want to role forward when the clutch was depressed. This happened to me on my PGT with ACT.
Long story short....You would feel a loose flywheel when you drove the car.....that would upset the balance of the car big time. Your car is normal and normal is good in this case.

Its crankwalk!!! naahh... just kidding. Mine makes that sound too. you will hear it more with the A/C on. I think its the input shaft bearing not the TOB, just my opinion. A wierd whining sound when you downshift and turn will freak you out also. As far as repairing this problem, I think you're on your own. Mitsu is going to say that its normal sound for the evo. SUX!!! Just don't worry too much about it.
