clicking/grinding noise while idling??
hey, someone help me out here, on my 03 GSR w/ about 16.5Kmiles I just realized that my trans clicks/grinds when I blip the gas pedal just sitting parked. I went and noticed that it is comming from the front where the flywheel/clutch assembly are. Why would my clutch/flywheel be making this noise while the clutch pedal is all the way out? I'm going to go try to adjust the clutch now to see if that helps... gimme any ideas you got, I've never had to replace a clutch before. I'm not having slipping problems either. I dont know how much the car was launced, I am the second owner and bought it @ 7Kmiles and since then have only launched it like 6 times @ autocrosses... but I did it the right way too. Anyways, lemme know what yall think here...

the repair manual says to check the pedal play and then the next step is the clutch release bearing... where is that? I know where the clutch release cylinder is, its where I connected my new braided clutch line to (about 2 months ago). Does this sound like the right diagnosis path?
i think i know what noise ur talking about. I have it too and have had it as much as i can remmeber since getting the car new too. Kinda just figured it was the general noisiness of the tranny and 4g63 anyways. so i stopped worrrying about it which i hope was a good thing. but clutch overall feels fine so...
Its your thow out bearing rattling its normal. Doesnt do it when its brand new but in time it will start to rattle. I have replaced my clutch with a ACT and the tob it comes with and it has started to rattle now.
I have an 03 with 14,000 miles. It makes the same slight grinding / rattling noise also. The clutch does not slip, so I dont really worry about it. I had a DSM years ago and it did the same thing... I dont think its a big deal...

excuse my piece-together job, couldn't get the pic out of acrobat in 1 piece.
tell me why the same exact method of adjusting the set screw is going to both alleviate pedal play and clevis pin play? someone explain this to me. Also, is this the only way to adjust the clutch, its all I can find in the manual??
The next step it says to take is to check the release bearing... but it doesn't say where that is, or what it is or how to do it, anyone know?

Adjusting the pedal will get rid of play in the pedal itself and also if the car is hard to get in gear because of the clutch not fully disengaging. The throw out bearing is what goes between the clutch release fork and the pressure plate. It is a little ball bearing peace that allows the engagment of the clutch. It may sound like a grinding noise but it most likely is just you thinking bad things. I do the same thing. If it rattles when you dont have the pedal pressed and then stops when you press in the pedal it is your tob and is really nothing to worry about. It should last as long as your clutch would. If you want to see what it looks like you can jack up your car and take off the little rubber plug that is on the bottom of your transmission next to your lower trasmission mount. Take a flashlight and you should be able to see it.
I actually had someone with a similar problem. If he pressed in the clutch the noise went away. The issue was that some bolts on his flywheel had come loose. Everyone thought it was the TO bearing...turns out it wasn't. Something to keep in mind...
