Unhappy Black gunk leaking on garage floor...

New Evo only 3-months old and there is black greasy waxy stuff (looks like undercoat) that is melting off the back end of the car underneath on to the ground. What is up with that? Did they use kiwi shoe polish for undercoat or what?? Should I pressure wash it off and recoat it with something better?

the undercarriage is coated with tar before being transported from japan to defeat corrosion from salty air and water. now as it gets hot, that tar will drip off.... no need for alarm. after 1.5 years of driving the evo, only traces of tar left

I found other complaints in the search as well. I can't believe this is supposed to be like that. Then again it is 105 in Ca lately, so it's Kiwi 80 Deg shoe polish then.

I just noticed this tonight, but this thread kinda puts my mind at ease. The few spots I have were way to sticky to be oil, so I'm not to worried.

I would check you CV joints in the back of the car. Also check the pilot shaft joint under the middle of the car. I have seen these go bad and leak their grease.

I had the same problem on my EVO, plus the 2 subarus I have bought.

It's not a bug, but a feature
