On the Track...

I got this guy with a NA 98' Trans AM that says he has taken a stock EVO on the track, also says he has 300hp. I asked for his time slip and he says he can't find it, I wanna pull his punk card on this one because I think he is a liar.... anybody have an opinion on this one?

my friends trans am was high 12's with only headers and exhaust with a tune from speed inc. oh, and that was on street tires with tons of wheel spin. he would most certainly take a stock evo in the 1/4. with slicks he would make a stock evo look very bad. i think he was arouns 320ish at the wheels, but don't quote me on that.

F-Bodies with the LS1 typically dyno 290-300 rwhp stock.

What kind of transam did he have? One of the Special Edition ones?

F-Bodies with the LS1 typically dyno 290-300 rwhp stock.
I'm pretty sure he is running base model

Well, the 98 has the LS1 that did dyno around 290rwhp with 310rwtq, so it would be no surprise for a stock one to beat a stock Evo. An 03/04 Evo runs 13.3 in stock form with a REALLY GOOD DRIVER, but decent drivers only get 13.5-13.7 while others only get 14s. A an LS1 T/A can run mid 13s with a good driver, so this is no big deal. For an 05 to lose to a stock LS1 would be slightly embarassing, though.

I have seen a 2000 (I think that was the year) LS-1 F-body myself dyno 315 at the wheels bone stock on a dynojet. And they respond very well to mods.

LS1s are fast. A stock LS1 ran 12.9 somewhere in Jersey.

compiled from the car mags: http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm

if it's a 1998 Firebird TA then you're looking at : 5.1 0-60 and a 13.4 1/4 mile.

My limited experience has been that the 'Merican tuners LOVE to squeeze NA HP out of their engines. Even light mods yield impressive results.

Enjoy

even though they are total sh*t boxes, they are wicked fast with tons of torque. i wouldnt be surprised at all if he took you. evos arent drag racers to begin with and thats where the F bodies shine.

I dont belive that for a second. Did he claim it was stock? Most of the 03 and up cobras ive seen around here run 12.9 stoc and they have 100hp more... That time for a ls1 is more then 5/10's faster then any one has ever tested those cars at...
