Boost Gauge Flutter

Hope someone will be able to answer this for me. I did a search and found some threads but nothing real concrete.

I am having an issue with my boost gauge. At time it will go right up to 20 psi and hold steady with no issues. Other times it will go up to 20 or higher and flutter back and forth +/- 1-2 psi. Are others experiencing this? Is this normal? What can I do to keep it consistent rather than flutter? I didn't have a boost gauge before the mods so I don't know if it did it stock or not.

My mods are in my signature.

Thanks for the help!

if its doing that on hot days and you dont have a fuel pump its possible that you are pulling a little timing..I believe al mentioned this to me after I was flashed...what gas are you using? and what is the weather like there?

It been hot, but not today. I use 93 octane. I'll have to build that boost leak tester. Was gonna do that anyway so I should do it now and find out.

if its goes up +2psi then it is probably not a leak, contact your dealer to see if anyone has had any other problems with this gauge.

go with electric gauge, then you can get exact boost reading.
all mechanical gauges that i had, flutter back and forth +/-1psi...
especially, when the gauge comes with brass fittings w/ skinny vaccume line.

just thought of another thing that could be happening, some of the hoses may be worn or have been expanding and contracting alot and this could be due to in accurate readings, try changing the hoses... gl

where is it tapped into? Some tap into the BOV line and some go to the fuel regulator line.

I had the same problem -- turns out my vacum caps had dry rotted it seems. Cracked all over causing a leak. Once I put in a new hard pipe the problem went away. I also did a quick check on the spring on my MBC.

Is that what compressor surge is? I'm new to the turbo scene and really don't know all the ins and outs of the car. What can I do to help this situation if it is compressor surge?
