full boost question

ok so say you're cruising at around 3500 rpms at full vaccum not touching the throttle at all then you floor the throttle, by what rpm's should you reach full boost on the stock turbo at 21 psi? I feel as though my spool feels slower than it used to maybe a dirty air filter or a leak in the intercooler piping but I just wanted to get everybodys take on proper spool time

5k rpm?!? No way, maybe just a few hundred after hammering it. We normally hit full boost just before 4k.

4K? We hit full boost around 3300 (at most) with the stock turbo.. Your full boost from 3500 should be almost instantly, within a couple hundred rpms...

lol ya mine is at about 4 k..the reason I asked is because I figured even this was high..I have 3 inches from downpipe test pipe and catback, hallman mbc, and cone filter intake. I really want to upgrade my intercooler piping but I just wanted to see what #'s you were getting for that scenario because I felt like mine should have been boosting just a little earlier. The hot weather probably doesnt help so that might be why it feels like its taking just a little longer than I'm used to.

well first off lol the last two posters might want to read the original post..if you're starting at 3500 rpms its funny that you reach full boost negatively at 3200 and 2850 rpms lol I know when full boost hits normally but the question was punching it from 3500 rpms.....and normally if I start totally from a total stop in first gear I've still NEVER seen full boost by 2850 rpm on a stock turbo you must have an amazing airflow going there I usually see full boost at about 3400 rpms in the latter case

I think full boost is very dependant on engine load (gear). Therefore, the rpm at which full boost is achieved will vary.

Well in all reality, it all depends on gear, speed, load, etc. So even if we all had the same mods and tune, we all would have unique numbers. The best way of measuring this is when we actually see boost when going WOT right at 1k.

Depends on mods and gear really -- if you are at 3 k in 3 gear and floor it with some IC piping you'll hit full boost pretty damn quick (almost instantaneously...but pretty damn quick.) Now if you did the same with the stock setup, you would see some lag in the boost spool up. well then you have the consideration of an aftermarket downpipe, etc...

well i'm sure you get the idea...
