Mine burns about a quart and a half over a 5k mile periode. Sounds about right since I rev the car to 7300rpm-ish. When your reving that high, some oil is going to get by.....vtec motors have always been oil hungry due to revs. My S2k would burn 1.5 quarts in 1500~2000 miles depending on how much I got on it.

uhhh i hope you let the car sit overnight before you checked in... it takes time for the oil to settle from the motor back into the oil pan ....

assuming you did that, you should burn at most 1 quart since you are in breakin period.

Every oil thread someone brings up the break in factor. It does not matter how you break in your car! I never saw boost until 1,200 miles. So if anything, being easy on the car during break in causes consumption. A lot of people say that you should drive it like you stole it from day 1.

you need to turn the car on, so the oil could recirculate to the turbo as well. then turn it off after about a minute or less time idling. then check the oil level.

4.5 quart is the perfect fit.

drain plug needs a new crusher everytime you change the oil, otherwise it'll leak oil.

i've gone to 4500 miles on the oil before, it went to the middle line, never almost gone.

if you don't do the idle then check then fill oil to the proper level, you will see that you only have about 2.5 quart in your engine, which could be very very bad.

some oil does burn, just a little bit, say 1/16th of the level, with hard driving (like auto-x 3 times)

wtf I thought if you properly broke the engine in it wasnt supposed to burn oil AT ALL. I swear I saw that on a topgear episode.

Alot of that has to do with break-in. Ive heard several different things about break in though, how did you break it in?

you scared me into checking my oil. i have jsut about 2500 miles on mine and i picked it up early june. im low and its filthy so i left the dealership a messege telling them im coming in. im a bit concerned that so early on my oil is low. dirty i understand since its the same oil i bought it with. its comforting to know it might just not have been filled enough when i picked it up, so maybe its not burning any. but it was a lot darker than either of my jeeps ever where (apples to oranges i know). some good info by the way. when i get it changed i will make sure they reaplace the drain seal or whatever that post said.

maybe I'm an anomoly, but I just hit 50k tonight. I first changed the oil @ 3k:no oil loss.
I change it around 4-4.5k, Mobil 1, never leaked a drop, burnt a drop.

My 95 GSX was the same. When it met the front of a minivan it had 120k, never leaked a drop of oil..

As far as break in goes, I never abused mine, but I ran it up to 7k a few times before the magical "1000 mile" mark.

The color of the oil coming out is the same as it is going in.....

im sorry, but no oil will still be the same color when you are done with 3000 miles. it absolutely will not happen.

hell run it for 100 miles and the oil will be much much darker than when you filled it up.

my car has burned oil since day 1, and i suspect the valve stem seals. Only because it burns more oil in the winter during cold startup. I can actually see blue smoke when i hit a little boost.

then again my dealership had already put 360 miles on the car and im sure they werent friendly miles.

I've had mechanics tell me this as well. They suggested that if you baby your engine to much during break in , rings don't seal properly and the engine will have trouble adjusting when it's been driven gently and then all of a sudden you start hammering it. It's been broken in a certain way and then all of a sudden you change it which can be a bit of a shock to the internals. Not sure how true that is. I'd be inclined to follow the owners manual.

Someone go buy 2 identical Evos and drive one like a grandma and hammer the crap out of the other one for the first 1k miles. Report your results when you are done.
