A hand full of launches, no real hard driving, ZERO mods and from about 1200 miles it started slipping and 8000 miles it started slipping really bad. It has ten on it right now, and it won't move. I have driven manuals all my life and I have never ever had a clutch go out on any domestic or European vehicle I have owned in the last 18 years no matter how hard I have driven it. This clutch sucks a**. I know how to drive and launch an AWD, my Sti does not have this problem at all and I actually do launch it hard doing rally on a stock clutch. The Evo is my street car that I drive a few times a week if that. There are so many complaints to the NHTSA about the clutch it is pathetic.

you're definitely in the minority if this thread is any indication. i'm even sensing a little evo hatorade....hmm you own an STi too? if our clutches are as bad as you claim, we should be blowing up all our clutchs like you under 1200 miles with no mods and a handful of launches.

you really expect the clutch to carry approx 120+ additional horsepower over stock ~50% more? Try an experiment take a 10 amp fuse and run a 15 amp current through it and see how long it lasts. The clutch is the same the, the drivetrain fuse.

16,000 miles and my stocker is fine after hard driving, track day and one burnt clutch episode by Shiv.

from what i've read it seems that some of the clutches were not the best produced, while some may say driver error is to blame, i still think their were a bad batch of clutches produced, but that the majority produced were fine

Just trying to let people know the limits of the stock clutch, thats all.I was actually suprised that it would hold 340whp.I was not expecting that it was even THAT strong,no problem.
Last year at 325whp clutch lasted a full year and only Wore out disc, right to point that the "stoppers"that are part of the pressure plate were hitting flywheel and the disc spun freely inside, was not even worn to rivits. If you have ever had a stock pressure plate in front of you,you can clearly see the design help contribute to premature clutch failure.

i think it's too much of a case by case basis. i've had my car since november and i've brought it to the 1/4 track at least 6-7 times with anywhere between 3-12 launches each time... i launch my car for the fun of it when i'm getting on the highway, basically equating to about 4-8 launches on the street a week since march... whereas my friend blew the clutch on his evo at 4k miles with 3 launches.
