What is the rear wiper for?
Well, maybe it's the aerodynamics of the Lancer or something, but I find that I'd rally like to have a rear wiper even though I never imagined it would help in any other sedans I've driven. I was thinking maybe it's the spoiler (standard OZ spoiler), since I've never driven a sedan with a spoiler before.
Basically, especially if there's snow or ice chunks on my rear windshield or hood and they slide down to my rear windshield, they just stay there. Doesn't matter how fast I go or how hard I turn, they fly around in circles on my rear windshield rather than fall off. A wiper would indeed be nice.

its a special tool. that was built for cars like this.. If you want the best way to portray and use it to full capability is to tie a rubber hand in a flipping off position, or waving hand if you are less vulgar, and when a cop hits the lights behind you., you just flipo the switch and put the hit that gas.
Yes, it never ceases to amaze me what people find to complain about. If people in Japan want rear wipers on their cars, then why bother re-engineering it when the car is brought over to the states? To save you money when you're "JDM-izing" your Evo while doing the rear wiper conversion.
I drive a hatchback with a rear wiper and a sedan without. Even when it rains really hard I find that in my hatch, the rear wiper is only needed occasionally. At high speeds the cars aerodynamics seem to keep the hatch clear enough to see anyway. But under the same conditions in my sedan, I could use a wiper as the water tends to sheet down the window. I can't figure out why since my hatch glass is broader and more perpindicular to the rain's travel. Maybe that's why just about all SUV's with their nearly vertical rear windows have rear wipers.
I mean damn, how much can that little bastard weigh anyway? Do most of us really need an intercooler water sprayer? Do you want power windows? Floor mats? A back seat? A jack? A spare?
There are plenty of things you could take off to make up for the wieght, but I'm glad they included some things to make the EVO unique and more visible.
I can see uninformed people looking at modded regular Lancers in the future and saying, is that an EVO?
And then somebody with a little bit of common sense saying, "Naw, dude it ain't got a rear wiper."

The car has a rear wiper because it's a cool bit of JDM kit. There's so much gridlock in japan that rear wipers on sedans are common, at least that's what I read in Car and Driver.

Even as old as this thread is..people still complain about these things. Whats ironic is that on the Subie site, theyre *****ing about the fact that they DONT have one and here effin people BS about having it.
The same goes for people that complain that its a 4door AWD instead of RWD. I just want to kick everyone that make comments like this in the ***.
