Well, the thing is, he made it sound like it was standard practice to do a credit check before they let people test drive EVOs.

I had to sign a waiver too...

I went along with it all because I thought it's standard practice.

For "normal" cars, I've never had a problem showing a license and going for a test drive...

For the Evo, my dealer said they don't allow test drives. Even after I had all the paperwork signed, I couldn't drive it until I watched their training video and took the stupid test. (And I wondered if they wouldn't sell me the car if I failed the test...)

My dealer said this was a Mitsubishi rule. I know several other dealerships in the area also wouldn't let anyone test drive them either. But many other people on here have said they had no problem going for a test drive. A friend of mine stormed out of his local Mitsu dealer and bought a Z06 instead because he said he wasn't going to buy a car he didn't test drive.

when im bored once in a while ill go test drive cars. the only thing they have ever done is taken a photocopy of my driver's licnese which i thought was pretty standard. the whole credit check thing is pretty extreme in my opinion. i find if you walk in like you own the place and youre ready to buy the car, they will typically do whatever you want them to in order to get the sale. remember they arent doing you a favor by letting you test drive a car, youre the one with the money, make them work for it
i test drove the evo twice before i bought it, each time at a different dealership in different states (pa and ma) neither time did i have a credit check or watch a video, they seriously just tossed me the keys am im only 20

I got a test drive right away with just a photocopy of my lic. I was 21 at the time and made it clear to the salesman that I wouldnt even think about buying for another 6 months to a year when I had graduated. Even went on a second test drive later on before finally purchasing the car. How can you spend 30k on something you've never driven? A no test drive policy is dumb.

First of all you do not need a credit check to get a test drive.

You certainly do not have to give your SSN number for a test drive.

I would have told them to shove it if they started that crap with me.

I think this is the reason why they have to check your license and credit to see if you're really serious about buying.

It all depends on the dealership. Generally they will let you test drive a preowned one more readily. My sales guy said they dont let people test drive them as the computer learns your driving style for the first 40 miles and then the engine reacts accordingly. I told him that if that was the case u could pull the ECU fuse for 10 min and that would reset it . The same guy also told me that it was way faster than the Sti. I told him that was not the case as the sti is 300hp and similar weight. He didnt even know the sti was AWD. What an idiot (guy in his late 40's).

Before I bought the evo I went to the only SVT ford dealer with 100 miles and told them I wanted a used 03 or 04 cobra with low miles. They wouldnt let me test drive one, (I am 30 and gave the guy my professional buisness car with my title (PhD) etc unless I would agree on a price first). I told him that he was nuts if he thought I would agree to buy a car before I even test drove it.

Bought the evo, havent looked back, screw ***** like that, they dont deserve our money

You don't want them to give you a credit check for a test dive. Reason being is that everytime your credit is run your fico score goes down! Rediculous I know but thats what happens.

Where was this? I walked into Bariel Mitsubishi in Wexford and after a brief talk, the salesman took me and the wife out and we drove as long as we wanted. They were cool, and he made it a point to keep it under 5k RPM and asked me to do the same. Even still the car pulled hard and I was impressed.

I plan on going there in the spring and buying a IX, still trying to decide between the MR or the IX with SSL.

I also visited South Park Mitsu one day and the salesman after a short discussion told me he would sell me any EVO for 200 over invoice. He did however mention about mods and somewhat slipped in saying, "If you do mod, we try to see if the mod caused the problem" That really turned me off.

I plan on playing dealer vs. dealer on price though to get the best deal, but I think I hope to get one from Wexford since it is much easier for me to get to since I live on the border of northside of Pgh. Driving to South Park would suck, I hate the south hills.

BTW I am 29

when i was 17 i went to mitsu dealer w/ my dad and a 19k down payment check and they didn't let me test drive. A year later I go back there with my dad(this time no check in hand), we were just walking around the evo on the lot and a different saleman asks "Are you over 16, let me get you the keys" and i took it for a testdrive.
