why is this ok? and not the other?

well i posted last week about removing the wing off the evo and got alot of negative comments. but my question is why is it ok to take the wing off and have a carbon trunk and not ok to just take off the wing? when i take off just the wing all i heard was, there goes handling blah blah blah, but when someone puts on a carbon fiber trunk this is all you see .

i dont get it? why is there a double standard? wingless is wingless right?

Mitsubishi claims something like a 35% increase in downforce with the wing. If you dont like it, yank the damn thing off. If they dont like they dont have to look at it lol.

just yank the thing, there really is no need for it unless traveling in the triple digits so if you do that often then i would reccomend keeping it but if not take it off it looks really clean without it and your mpg will increase

Because people who get CF trunks usually post their results in the Show 'n Shine section, which is full of Lancer noobs and ricey Evo-owning-Honda-converts. When you asked us about it here in Evo General, you got more of the performance-oriented people who answered in the negative. You should NOT be removing a wing for sleeper or cosmetic purposes. It is there for a reason, and if you're going to do it, it should be for the explicit purpose of gaining an advantage in whatever form of racing you partake in. Doing such a major change for mere aesthetic purposes is lacking in wisdom, but it's your choice ultimately...

what you should have said was.. "i want to reach 200 mph in my evo, i am going to dewing it to meet that goal"

going wingless is a personal choice. there's always people out there who hate on anything besides their own style, so who gives a ****? beyond that, this website is just a lot of mob-mentality and dick sucking... so you'll get the first few opinions and then after that everyone else is just following the flow of traffic. honestly, i bet on your other thread if the first few people gave you  then you would have just as many people giving you props for your idea.

there's absolutely no use for the wing for day to day use unless you're constantly going over 90 mph and turning. i removed mine for the purpose of not attracting attention from street racers and police. it's quite easy to put it back on if it's needed.

If you want to go wingless w/out losing high speed stability, then take off the wing and get a rear diffuser (aka rear undertray).

^^ Yep. Potentially great for a top-speed run ... BUT ... you'd have to have the rest of the car's aerodynamics dialed in much better than stock.

you're never going to please every body, it's your car and your hard earn money, do what ever you want to with it and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks. i personaly don't think that you will ever be able to turn an evo into a sleeper with or with out the wing. it's too damn sexy, the wing is not the only thing that catch attention on the evo. i'm thinking of removing my wing to improve gas mileage because i do a lot of highway driving to and from work and i'm also adding a rear diffuser to further improve gas mileage.

I wouldn't be concerned about other people's opinions. Do whatever you like. If your concerened about performance, about the only way you are going to realize a disadvantage is if you are road racing. Drag racing performance may actually improve a slight bit without it and I doubt you will notice a difference on an AutoX track.

I am planning to take mine off (less attention) but then i realized i can't run in the stock class in autox so i'll just leave it on.
