My EVO test drive - Hypnoz read me!
Figured I would start a new thread for my experience today.
Went to Lewisville Mitsubishi, they just got another shipment of 9 EVO's today, bringing the total up to like 16. (They do have an MR if anyone is interested, too rich for my blood).
Anyhow, I went and looked inside a silver without SSL, still wrapped in plastic. This is probably the one I'd go with. Went and test drove a black with SSL. Did mostly highway driving with a little city here and there. I didn't want to get on it too hard and run it to redline, but enough to see what it had to offer.
I will compare it to the GTO, just because that was my most recent comparison, and that's what Hypnoz is looking at also. The initial power doesn't feel as strong, obviously since it has an extra 120hp. The engine sound is something to get used to. My last car was a 6 cyl, my current car is an 8 cyl, and the GTO is a big azz 8 cyl. The engine sounds kind of "gritty" during soft acceleration, but when you hop on it, that sound is drowned out by the turbo spool, and slowly pushes you back in your seat, but continues to pull harder and harder, not as even feeling as the GTO, but that isn't a bad thing.
Handling, I'd say there is no comparison...the EVO wins by far. Firm ride and 0 body roll in turns. Even slow, it corners like a skateboard.
Exterior - EVO wins hands down. I forgot how intense they looked in person. GTO, looks like a 2 door Grand Am stretch.
Interior - GTO is the clear winner. Obviously not made in the US, it's very refined, a lot of attention to detail. EVO is very plain, even with the SSL, there isn't much to it, but that's the way it should be.
Financing and incentives - EVO wins again. I cannot find any real fault. They are offering me $29,625 for the car and $1,000 more than anyone else for my trade.
Overall, both are a blast to drive, just very different feeling. Evo is prettier outside, GTO inside. Compared side by side, I might put one more check mark next to the EVO and give it a LITTLE BIT of an edge, mostly due to the deals you can get on them right now.
It may lose points shortly, as my wife is checking on the difference in insurance.

Another little trick I kept to myself...Of course, they asked me what my target payment was, and I knew they would come in higher than I REALLY wanted, so I told them my payoff was $1,000 more than it actually is. Holding back a little for myself.

They were asking $39K for the MR. They basically said "there aren't many left so we're holding out for someone that really wants it."

Cool write up! 5 yrs w/ 0 % interest seems as good as 6 yrs 3.9%.... I need to test drive one so i can compare. Thanks for the write up.
How does the low end compare to the GTO? Seems for normal driving, they are quite a bit slower...
