Is that dealer going to give you a warranty? It's not a mitsu dealer is it?

with mods like that someone really beat on it. if you realyl want it still have a good mechanic go through it and make them give you a warranty. i still agree with everyone else though,. go buy a new one for 0% and save your yourself the potential hassles of a modified used car.

It is a mitsu dealer. I told the salesman to put it in writing exactly what parts of the warranty have and have not been voided, as well as to thoroughly go through the car mechanically. I will ask him again if there is a limited warranty from the dealer on driving the car off the lot.

I'm still waiting to hear back on my financing rate from a few outside lenders, as the mitsu dealer tried to stick it to me there (of course). I figure any rate over 6% and the decision is a no-brainer anyways. I did find a new MR locally, the payments would be about $50 more a month and it would be silver as opposed to supersexy graphite...but like most of you said, piece of mind.....

Also, don't forget that no matter what they say is still warrantied, once it changes owners, you no longer get the full warranty (5/60, 10/100, 7/100), but rather the limited 3/36 and such...

once u sign the paperwork the headaches will begin! just because the dealership says something dosent mean they'll follow through with it! all they want is to "ditch" a POS! if its got a new turbo, clutch, and mods means it was beaten to sh*t!!! be very careful because will void all warranties once u take it off the lot. the first time u bring it in for something the crying will start. Evos, if not maintained 100% and beaten, WILL BE A PAIN IN THE AZZ! my 2 cents......

BUY A NEW 05!

i totally agree, its not worth it when you can buy one with 0% apr for 32, the extra 3k you spend is def worth it considering the peace of mind youll have, plus like said, maintenance is a b*tch, and you know if the car has that kind of stuff in it, it was abused when driven, so its not gonna be "mint", if you want the extra goodies save up while driving the car and add em on yourself, you dont want to buy one with all the goodies in it already because you first gotta get used to driving one of these bad boys before you go ***** out on mods, you gotta learn to crawl before you walk

29k isnt a good price. Its no telling what the car has been through. and by you paying 29k the dealership is making a good profit. for parts they didnt put on the car. buy an 05 or wait for the 9 to come out.

The alternative I'm considering is an MR, so its 36k @ 0% vs. 29k @ ~6%. Everyone keeps mentioning maintenance...what does an evo require over a regular car. I currently drive a 99 T/A which will be converted over to a more dedicated drag car. So i'm already used to the synth oil changes every 3k. I know I will have ot replace the original tires relatively early, what other PIA things can i expect? You guys are great with the info, keep it coming, thanks!

That has been on my mind too. It honestly does appear the previous owner has taken very good care of the car. He has upgraded some of the little things most people overlook as well - kevlar timing belt, heat shield, plugs and wires. The pictures I saw of it were prior to the dealer cleaning everything up. I originally was interested in the evo over the sti due to the stouter engine and modability. Is it really that likely that, what I would consider fairly basic mods for a turbo car (I/E/mild cams/reprogram), could have done long term damage simply by driving this car? Maybe I'm just used to the TA, but I drive the hell out of her and I haven't broken anything in 90k miles, I assumed an evo wouldn't be too broke after only 12k? I mean c'mon it's a pontiac!

patience my friend, if this is the case, wait for the 9, because the 9 at 31k is the same thing as the 8mr, very few differences that you will never notice anyway, the extra gear doesnt do much, and the turbo isnt worth the extra 5k, so if you desperately want mr quality, get the 9 at 31k, brand new, nothing like a new car bro, in terms of maintenance, heres a great link

Thank you, that link is a big help actaully. My biggest reason for being interested in the MR is the extra gear, in the winter I will be doing mostly highway driving (80% of my miles will probably be highway, the rest city and track). I agree, there really is nothing like a new car...but the 9 gsr will also come with about 4k in finance charges, which puts it right with the MR now...so for the same price i'd rather just jump on the 8 MR.
