Used MR, what do you guys think?

Trojan man - if that car is located in Minnesota then I know it well. The car was owned by a very good owner and all the work was done at a solid shop. The clutch was changed out in preperation for the addition of more power.
I haven't asked the prior owner why he traded the car (and bought an '05 Evo with SSL) but I suspect that he just decided he wanted to go back to a stock Evo without any mods - something more "suburban neighborhood" friendly.

erioshi, chances are we are talking about the same car. It really is a small evo world out there! You say the owner is a stand-up guy then, that is good to hear. I'll be pulling the trigger today, i'll let you guys know which way it goes. Thanks, if anyone around has any other info on the Minn. car, fell free to email me if you don't want to post it.
Having purchased 10+ plus cars in my time now (both new and used) I've drawn a few conclusions of my own. New cars are a terrible investment and used cars can bring problems with them. 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other (some crap my mom used to say).
I wouldnt hesitate to buy a used vehicle even with the mods. The factory warranty is transferable (the cars warranted, not the driver), this has been the case with all the used cars I've purchased. Just because a car has some mods doesnt mean its been beatin on, there is a big difference between aggressive drivers and abusive drivers. Its not hard to spot a car thats been abused.
Have the dealer put in writing that the warranty in its entirety will be honored (wont be hard to have that done, they've done a "thorough" inspection lol) and you have no worries.

Save your $$, get a used Evo which has never been modded before! Use the savings to buy your mods and your car will be a BEAST, much faster than a brand new 05 MR! Also you can save big on taxes on a used car. Lets say you paid $25K on a used Evo, if the owner is cool, request him to give you a receipt that he sold the car to you for say $15K. Then you pay taxes on the $15K, not on $25K you paid, big savings there. You cant do the same at a dealership. DMV doesnt care. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah, I've worked in audit situations in the past, I'd rather spend the extra $500 and never have to worry about it. It's always been my philosophy that if you're gonna steal, steal big.
In other news, MMNA actually denied me on my 0% financing, basically because I'm a kid (24) and haven't had the chance to build up a long credit history...despite having half of the value of the loan in liquid assets, an ample income, and a >700 CR. They really don't know who to lend to do they!
So it looks like it's going to be a used evo either way....oh modded or not, the fun will begin soon. Also, the Minn. place called and actually offered to have the car third party inspected if I wished, so that's atleast a sign of good faith

I think is a smoking deal considering that a MR is no less than $38000 out of the door, add all the mods that the car has plus labor and I think that $29000 is a steal.
Think about this, the MR's are not even a year old(10 months at the most) and you are getting one for about $11000-$12000 less
Go for it..

A car valued at 28K being sold for $15K is a big red flag. I have received a notice from the tax collectors office once regarding this on an older lower priced vehicle.

Thanks WRXtoEVO, after the 0% fell through, it became much more likely that i'm going that route. LoyalTrojan, I do know what you're talking about, and am familiar with many people who have done it without being caught. I just know that I'm that .001% guy that always gets scr*wed over by the law. Oh, and don't think that tax auditors only go after the "big fish," that's very far from the truth. The big fish also have plenty of money to hire accountants and lawyers to cover their tracks, which adds complication and costs money to convict. I appreciate the suggestion, but after working first hand on that stuff, I'd rather just avoid it altogether.
Do what suits you best or what you are more comfortable with, I was not asking you to go that route, but I simply stated what goes on in the used car market, because not many people are aware of it! u get my point?

then you know what condition it's in
