You are EXACTLY right. Look at what is going on with Gasoline in this country... It's called price controll. Its supposed to be illegal to fix prices like they do, there's no competition in the market. Here in CA you'll be lucky to find a difference of more than 1-3 pennies between gas stations. They know that we NEED gasoline, and they have it.
In other supply-demand scenarios, businesses fight for their customers by lowering their price. The government absolutely needs to step in and demand some competition in the market. Its absurd that gas companies can all put their prices at $3.00/gallon. We are FORCED to pay it!
p.s. Im am republican also and I feel that by not doing anything, the government is in the wrong.

My bad. Sorry to have miss-read the 1st post. It's just we don't have that problem here i the Midwest....for now.
wow...its amazing how many uninformed people there are in this thread
sorry people, but the barrels of oil you are referring to is CRUDE oil...it is not exactly the stuff that goes into our cars...a lot of refineries were damaged or remain inoperable due to power outages...the refineries are what turn crude oil into gasoline...
we are not going to run out...we have over 700million barrels of oil in mining reserves in texas and new mexico...but those dont help out too much when we have no places to make it into gas
also, some of the pipelines that carry gasoline to the east coast are also out of power...thats the reason the east coast is so short on gas at the moment...
and, the govt IS doing something about it...here in raleigh, gov agencies are requiring its employees to walk, ride their bike, or commute to work...REQUIRED....also, just last year raleigh ordered 1500 govt automobiles that were equipped to run on ethanol (alternative fuel)
here in NC, gas stations are making anywhere from a whopping $.001 to $.02 per gallon of gas sold...they make most of their money off people who go inside and buy drinks and snacks...granted, there are some people who are raising their prices simply b/c they can, but there are bad apples in EVERY profession so lets not single out the gas industry at this time of crisis...and the govt has stepped in and are imprisoning gas stations who are gouging...a lot of states have a hotline to call if you notice gouging
this isnt something that can change overnight and yes, the hurricane DID have something to do with it...it will be fixed, just give it a week or two...after they are done counting the dead bodies and rounding up the gang bangers in New Orleans, if the gas is still your biggest concern, THEN you can gripe about it...until then, let the govt do the things that are more important right now...SAVING LIVES

I just paid $3.42/gal for 93, but gas is always above the national average here. Why you ask? WI people are taxed for just about everything. 23% income tax, 6% gas tax, 5.5% sales tax, property tax ???(can't think of it right now)and theres a few others I can't think of. I am still trying to figure this out, but can only come to one conclusion, our governor is a complete moron, who ever voted for this guy should have their ***** ripped off so they can't reproduce with idiot kids.
But yeah I saw that GA gas price on the news today and almost dropped my food. I would hate to see the prices in NJ or NY.

This dude who lives near me (Wayne, NJ) melted his pistons because of using 87 octane gas. The detonation timing is different with 87 octane therefore causing damage to the internals. I suggest you run to the little auto store and get octane booster or something. The motor will blow. He happened to be pulling hard in 3rd gear when it blew. Im just suggesting you get some sort of octane booster or race fuel.
