What year si your car? I ssume it does not have the ACD?? You should only be putting lsd oil in the transfercase such as the factory Diaqueen or redline heavy shockproof. ONLY the 75 90 goes in the rear diff. If it has the acd then it gets the diaqueen in the TC. Good Luck

its ur TC...i dont know why or how u got that bang...but the noise ur describing is the transfer case whining...not true that it wont run, i've had a bad TC before and it ran and performed flawlessly, just that loud whine from about 40 to 85mph then it sorta dies down. and this is why i "bashed" on owning an 03 cuz of this very well known problem on 03s

Around here if the car is going to be out of comission for longer than a work day they will give you a loaner car. I had one for 2 months. Ahhh, the freedom of a car that isn't yours. Visions of a dodge stratus soaring through the air, emergency brake stops from 80 mph, and the 3500 rpm gear drops from every light. I kind of miss it.

The dealership paid for everything with mine but, they also ended up buying that Evo back. So, I don't know if they were just trying to keep from being a total a**hole over it or of that is the norm.

I'm trying to remember what I put in my TC. I know it was either Redline 75w-90 or, MT90 which ever one of those is the appropriate one is what I put it.

It's long story about my first Evo.....
If you want to read about it look for a thread titled "unf**kingbelievable".

hmm so i guess the fluid is not the problem since i put all the fluids that the book said... i guess, my TC is really on its last days on this earth... even with little to no abuse... the only thing i do is go to the mountains with perfect heel and toe shifting

Sounds like you're very distraught, which is understandable, I would be too.

As for your problem. I couldn't say for sure. Perhaps when they drain the
oil there might be alot of metallic content.

You Evo is stock and has plenty of warranty left, there shouldn't be any problem
getting a Mitsui dealership to fix the issue.

HELP! found the problem on my car!

OK i posted some thing about a noise coming from my drivetrain early...

well, i had the fluids replaced about 200 miles ago and well i went back to my friends shop and emptied out the transfercase fluids, and they were as black as hell, plus shavings were visible in the light... first of all, i went to mitsubishi to pick up some diaqueen but they didnt have any, so they told me that 80w-90 gear oil will work the same...so thats exactly what i used in my transfercase... not even 200 miles and i come to see the fluid like i never changed it for years...what is it thats causing this? im taking it in on moday and will determine if its under warranty or not... car is completely stock...what do you guys think?
