Looking for some info...

I've got the oppurtunity to go to one of the 3 Japanese US Air Force bases for my follow-on assignment after Honduras and I've been looking at the EVO models on some Japanese websites. They seem to be priced right around the same as in the US, saw a couple IX's for $33k US, most of the VIII's were around $25k, and the VII's were around $14-$20k.

I've heard that the JDM models have different headlights, tails, and AYC. But what other differences are there? Perhaps someone has a site that explains differences? I've been searching and I can't find much info, just on USDM models.

Thanks!
Jason

Well, I don't want to take out a huge loan. Even the 99 GT-R's run around $35k minimum, depending where you look. Now an R34 GT-T (single turbo, RWD, no widebody) can be had for around $15k, most of them I've seen and been in are used for drift cars.

Thanks for the link, checking it out now!

You are mostly right, the S15 SpecR has a single T28 turbo, other than that you are right on. They are great cars, I've driven a few, but I'm very partial to AWD, and even more partial to DSM's (and EVO's).

The EVO VII is looking like a good option right now, but I'm not gonna get ahead of myself. I've still got a little over a year until I get there.

Yeah, the R33 GT-R is an option, can be had for less than $20k no problem, about the same price as the EVO VII.

I like playing in the mud and snow, and the EVO's just seem to be a little bit better for all-weather conditions. Especially if I end up living in northern Japan, snows alot. I haven't driven an R34 or R33, but I've driven a few R32's and they just don't inspire the same confidence that the EVO does in adverse weather. Perhaps it's how the torque is distributed

Oh, and also I'm pretty sure I want a 4 door, I'm getting older (26), probably gonna end up married soon enough, and a 4 door would be a better bet. I've been driving DSM's forever, and I'm ready to move on to a bigger car. Also, I would get a Skyline if I wanted to make some monster power and modify the hell out the car, which I really don't. I'll be perfectly happy with ~350hp, which is just a couple simple bolt-ons away for either car.

well Evo 7 is good ..... I think since you are going to become a family man.. Evo is better than GT-R =) coz GT-R is kinda scary when you hit the gas too hard .. well sure it is fine for you but its going to be scary for your family =) I used to drive R32 and R33 when I used to work as car dealer .............. and believe me .. once you got GT-R .. you will sure going to mod them with every penny in your pocket.. =)

Good luck my friend .. and let us know more about hows your life in Japan.

you speak the truth. I want one so bad.....but I don't know if I can justify the purchase. Depending how much the price on R34 GT-R's drops in the next 18months I probably could afford one. I would have to get between $15k-$20k on a loan though.....I've got pretty good credit and USAA offers good rates on loans, so I might be able to pull it off. We'll see, if the insurance cost isn't any different than the Evo, I might just do it.
