Is your 05 Evo 8 an MR version? You don't say so in your sig or in your profile, so I wanted to make sure.

Well, no, but this thread is ONLY talking about shifting to 6th gear, and you don't have a 6spd. He was asking other MR owners if they have the same problem...

actually its just my 5th gear. i realized that later.

6th is fine and its not shifting to and from any gear

its ONLY pulling it out of 5th. it has much more resistance than it should.

the other gears shift and go in and out of gear just fine.

but what my service department told me was that the MRs have that problem. so even though its about 5th gear. its a non GSR related problem im asking about.

well my story is ... the 2nd day I got my Evo, I noticed 2 different cracking sound from my clutch and transfercase/gearbox. and sometimes I have to force a little to shift to 3rd and 4th. I can feel the resistant when I try to press into 3rd.

2 different cracking sounds will happen when
1) I release clutch (sounds coming from rear bottom)
2) when I shift into 3rd or 4th at 2.5k rpm to 3k rpm range higher than 3.5k rpm seem fine, I dont here anything (coz the engine rev sound might covered it already)

and I went to dealership last week here is the answer they got Click Me .

I went to another dealership this Monday and they told me - Sir Evo isnt a normal type of car ... therefore.. please go to *********** dealership they have better tech there to service Evolution ....

I was like .... WTF ... but at least they been honest......

so tomorrow I am going to Another dealership .. see if I can find out something ..

Thumbs down

I have an '05 and haven't had the problem you're experiencing. However, I'm having different shifter problems. My shifter is super notchy and rough getting in gear, especially when the engine is cold. I installed an engine damper and stiffer shifter bushings, which has helped the shifting a bunch once the engine is warm, but it's still impossible to shift smoothly for a while after I start the car. Any idea why this is??

Uh, same difference. No need to get that technical about it. People with 6spd swaps still have the MR tranny, so it's all the same.
