Something with 6th gear

This weekend I evacuated Houston, Tx because of hurricane Rita.

it was a 14 hour drive down to Dallas (260mile trip)

Stop and Go traffic for about 10 hours and about 80 miles.

Finally when the road opened up and i hit 6th, I noticed it wouldnt go into 6th unless I put a little force into it. For the remaineder of the drive I feared my car breaking down driving to dallas.

This morning I checked it out and everything was fine.

Do you guys think its temporarily fine or possible so much bumper to bumper traffic may have had a very bad effect on my clutch?

your fuild was prob very hot and not providing enough lub to the syncros, so it was a little harder to get into gear... as long as it shifts fine now your ok..

you could have boiled the fluid, i would change it.. if its still there then you have a defect..

ya the fluid would definitly loose its viscosity if it boiled, but to do that it would have had to have been some hot. if they still use the same stuff as brake fluid for ur clutch line, then how would the clutch line have gotten that hot and boiled its fluid but not the brakes.
sorry but im a little skeptical on the fluid thing!

hopefully its the fluid. i did bumper to bumper traffic for 10 hours straight.

think about how much clutch engagement that was for my poor car.

ill go to a mitsu dealer sometime tomorrow here, in dallas, and hope for the best that it gets fixed.

thanks guys

OT: I saw pics of that... lots of broken down cars on the side of the highway... good luck to you guys

On Topic: Bring it to the dealer and tell them your concern, they'll probably replace your gear oil for free..

bump. my dealer has had the car for a day and told me it was ready. they said that they see what i mean (as it is very obvious) that it is hard to take the shifter out of 5th gear (not terribly hard but enough to bother you). They said all MRs have this problem and that I just need to push it to the right a bit more and itll go in easier.

I don't want to be a typical jerk about things when I go in to talk to them today but I paid 37k for this car and I'm not going to settle on having it not run how it used to.

What do you guys think? Are your MRs having any trouble with 5th as well?

Discuss please.

HELL NO, THAT IS NOT NORMAL! I have never had anything remotely resembling this problem and that includes road racing where I was revving high in 5th (135mph) then shifting to 6th quickly with no hesitation whatsoever.

did u have them change out the fluid? That's what I would've done, those temperatures that day were unbearably hot, and there was no wind speed to cool your tranny, so I'm SURE with the turbo and everything else, the fluid probably irreversibly deteriorated. . .change it out, see what goes on. . .
