Flat spot...

I seem to be hitting a flat spot when i get to around 4,000 RPM. Is this normal ? I mean the girl pulls like crazy, but it just seems to hit a flat spot when i rev high through the gears at 4,000 RPM. What do yal think ?

I have nothing to base it off of ! Plus how much does it cost to get your car dyno'ed ?

What do you mean by "high through the gears at 4,000 RPM"? That's very LOW in the gears. In fact, it's right at the point where your turbo spools, because that is where we hit peak torque. This should not only NOT feel flat, but should be the point at which you feel the strongest kick in the butt. Usually, there is a flat spot around 5500rpm when the factory tune starts to go extremely rich, but not at 4k.

You find a place that has an AWD dyno and you schedule dyno time. It usually is quite costly...maybe $100 for 30 minutes (3 pulls) if you include AFRs, unless you get in on a dyno day with a club discount like we do around here.

Tell you the truth Warrtalon, i just broke 1000 miles the other day and hit 5000 RPM for the first time but at 4000 RPM the engine gets real smooth and it just kinda feels flat . I haven't taken it over 5000 RPM yet and was debating on whether or not to change my oil early to get the initial shavings out, but reading your last thread on changing oil and changing it early i am still kinda debating on what to do . I'll run it up here in about 2 hrs when i go home but from what i remember from the other day it just felt flat. I mean i didn't have any discrepency lights or anything but it just doesn't feel like something is meshing for me at 4000.

Man, if you haven't gone over 5k rpm in your car, then you really have no reason to post this. Go out and rev that thing to 7500 in 2nd and 3rd gear, then come back to me. It amazes me how people go this long without actually driving the car. Good on you for trying to take care of your car, because it does require good maintenance, but 1000 miles is way longer than necessary before making that baby scream. I don't see a problem with you changing the oil, but I have only changed my oil at the required intervals (5k miles). I've lowered it to 4k more recently, since I've been doing more hard driving (auto-x/drag/road racing), but for daily driving there's no need.

There was a local young guy who got an 05 EB and had no clue how fast the Evo really was until I convinced him to go over 6k rpm. You will be amazed at how the car screams all the way to redline, even in factory form...

Hey man i will take your advice and take little old Evie up to 7000 RPM today and listen to her. I mean i thought it was a blast at 5000 RPM God she sang so beautifully but to tell you the truth i have never had a car that was obviously , this much car . And for some reason i believe i have read somwhere that this is a high revving car so i'll take your word and play a little. Unfortunatly i am trying to get some smaller mods like turbo time and shortshifter and some other littler things but because i have a couple of billsi don't wanna go and void anything and be stuck footing one hell-of-a bill. What do you do for a living ? I am slowly getting more and more into tuning and have been reading up on alot of the basics with "Dumby" books. Being an aircraft electrician (Air Force) i have a good knowledge of mechanics but that is Aircraft mechanics, so i need to do my homework and soak up all i can. I get to a good point one day due to being a fast learner but somethings like that "flat spot" just kinda bothered me .

I'm a consultant of management and technology to the DoD after formerly being in Marine Intel.

If you want to avoid unnecessary bills, then don't worry about the turbo timer or the short shifter, but those mods really aren't expensive, and they won't void your warranty. They also won't hurt the car in any way, but aren't necessary either. This car is made to go over 7000 rpm, so enjoy.

Wow, brother in arms huh ? Marine or not once a brother always a brother. Hey what do you know about "Motul's RBF 600 " brake fluid ? I was thinking about changing my fluid out. Would i have to purge/bleed my brake system for that ? I mean i am changing my brake lines to some goodridge lines so i guess that would be a good time to do it if i had to .

I don't see any reason to change either of those things unless you plan on road racing your car regularly. Why are you changing your brake lines, and what is Goodridge (haven't heard that name before). Motul makes the best brake fluid, but I just use Super ATE Blue. I also race my car regularly, though.

Yeah the brake lines i found were on one of the web site : http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...2&cat=5&page=1

I mean i don't know if they are the best , i know they are no "Stop-Tec" or anything but people say they are alright . alot of the things i plan on up grading are smaller things that really don't cost much but its pretty much my christmas list some of the others are :

-- Apexi Auto Turbo Timer + EVO Plug & Play Harness COMBO!
-- B&M Short Shifter Non Adjustable and 8pc Stiff Shifter Bushings Kit Metal
--Defi D Black Boost Gauge + Autometer Single EVO Gauge Steering
--C-West Eyebrows 2pc-Lancer EVO
--Taylor Battery Relocation Kit

None of them will void my warranty and plus eveywhere else you turn you have to reflash your computer and then BAM, no warranty.

Warrtalon, although I have not been on here long this is the first time I've seen you being "nice" to someone. It feels good doesn't it .

You gotta understand a military man . Its not that he is mean, he just doesn't like dumba*s people. Currently i am a Drill Sergeant and always get labled as being mean. "Without discipline and common sence, we are no better than the animals we slaughter". Act dumb and get treated dumb, get lazy and be treated like s*it. Military men are very self sufficient and thereby get annoyed easily by dumb people, i understand where he is coming from .

Please, don't use that excuse as being a "military man". I did my time (4yrs) helping DEA catch drug runners in Ft. Huachuca, AZ. While only a 75B I spent lots of time in the field and busting my a$$. I got out before I made the mistake of getting married with kids and being locked up in a military career. I got out went on to take over a family business and retained a "nice" attitude so it is possible. YES DRILL SERGEANT, and I won't call you sir cause you work for a livin .
