Had an Evo8, sold it, bought Scion, now want an Evo again...
I've been a member here for quite some time now but haven't posted in over a year from what I remember...
I had a 2003 Evo8 in Weightless White. It had a Turbo XS DP, RMR Cat-delete, Greddy Ti exhaust, HKS Bov, and AEM intake. It was a fun car and it ran a 13.5@101.5 the first time I ever raced it (also 1st time I raced an AWD car). I ended up selling it because I commuted to school and the 16-18mpg really killed me. Gas costed about 100 a week and I wasn't making enough money at the time.
Needless to say I traded it in for a 2005 Scion tC. I have been pretty busy with it and it's a fun car, but the lack of REAL aftermarket support (cams, turbos, manifolds, EMS, etc) didn't exist. I was forced to develop my own turbo kit and go from there. After countless problems with tuning and little to no aftermarket support, I'm really missing my Evo again.
Quick pics of my tC...

I got promoted at work, with a 32% pay increase, and a salary pay... So it's looking like I can once again own my Evo. I also don't commute anymore so it's looking good.
Anyway guys...
I'm assuming a new Evo would be my best bet because no one's abused it yet, and interest would be lower. I can sell all my aftermarket parts and use half of it on the Evo anyway so I'm not losing too much. Do you guys reccommend buying an 05 8/MR or an 06 IX(non-mr due to cost). I don't want the horrid driveability problemsI had with my old Evo, which I know was due to the atmospheric BOV and a crappy intake. If anything, my first mod would be an AEM EMS (I sell them) and a standard boost controller...
Any tips or suggestions on what I should look for or what to look out for? I miss the Evo and haven't been in the Mitsu game for a while now, so I'm not up to speed with everything. Thanks in advance everyone.

i think i saw u=this car- at the last import wars in N.H.
in any case, i would go with an new 05 right now. they worked out all the bugs from the 03-04s they come with the 10.5 hotside, and they have great incentives to buy on these right now. and because the IX is here they will be more willing to do a deal on a leftover 05!

damn your scion is nice and better yet its turbo thats unique and different from others scion out there,if you dont mind asking whats your dyno and 1/4mile time?anyways going back with the evo,i think you better go with the evo9 with mivec motor or you could go with the 0%financing if you have a good credit but i dont know if they still have the 05 models because the evo9 is arriving to
dealers and its good to hear a former member coming back to the evo world.please dont trade in your scion its too damn nice to give it up,especially having a turbo scion not much people has it.

Haven't finished dyno-tuning yet. My local tuner is a lil iffy and not familiar with Toyota engines so it hasn't been going well. Plus the ECU has been over-riding the emanage settings within 4 seconds of adjustment. It should be making about 270Whp with a good tune. It already made 215whp, 220 tq at a lil over 4k rpms... The ignition timing was reatarded by 15 degrees and he was running a flat 11 AFR. So on a very poor tune, 84 degree day, and not redlining, it was getting there lol. We were supposed to finish dyno-tuning today but my damn drive-by-wire throttle system failed and the car broke down at an intersection on the way to the dyno. So it's sitting in my garage right now with some parts taken off, and it smells of gasoline (RC 550CC injectors installed). I'm really considering just not bothering with all the nonsense and just buying the Evo again and staying with a nice car that's more reliable than my heavily modded tC. I have brand new gauges, TTs, 17" DRs, a new T3/T4 turbonetics turbo, 2 new BOVs, a Tial 38mm wastegate, and other stuff. So the new Evo can pick up some mods pretty quickly. I think I'd do the EMS before anything though, I hate MAF.
For me I just purchased an 05 instead of a 06 for one reason 9 grand. 0% and 4 grand off sticker on a ssl, an 06 to me is not worth 9 grand more to me. Welcome back evo's rock.

Glad you're coming back to the fold. Of the two choices, I'd go with the 05 MR if you can find one; prices are just too good to pass up.
And just to let you know, you weren't the only one thinking of going with the TC. I was a little tempted to go after one after seeing the Greddy turbo and Champ Pace Car at the SJ Grand Prix this summer. After a little research, I thought the TC had potential but the aftermarket is just not there.
Threw in the drifting Supra just cuz it's so cool!!!!
