- reflash (personally I would get Vishnu's Xflash ... no need for MBC, since Xflash controls boost)

Ideally you'd want to do all of the above mods at the same time to save to cost. The net result should then be an Evo that is as quiet as stock, but makes significantly more power.

If you want to go an extra mile, then you could also get a cutout from the downpipe into a side-exhaust, controlled with an electronic dump valve (a'la smokedmustang's setup). That way you're quiet most of the time, and if you need the extra power, you open up the side exhaust... braaaaaap!!!

Lastly, IMO the only reason to go with an aftermarket BOV (recirculating, NOT VTA) is if your stock BOV is not holding boost. Also, there is no compelling reason to go with an aftermarket intake on the stock turbo. Get a K&N drop in filter and call it a day.

well as far as exhaust, i mean id like it quiet but im not gunna go through all that trouble. ill just buy a turbo back that is from what you guys say is the most quiet.

also guys....is there a thread that shows me all the abreviations u guys mention cause i dont know them all; ex: VTA, TBE, DP, LICP, alky, mbc, hks rs.

btw, thnx for all the help guys. the more you all tell me i just keep searching about your suggestions and its really helping me.

You're getting ahead of yourself... the EVO world has a million parts to choose from, and when you finally get it, your mind may have changed on what you want. But to give you a start, I would say:

1) TBE (turbo back exhaust, meaning a DP (downpipe), cat replacement (be in cat-delete or Hi-flow) and a catback....
2) MBC w/ Boost gauge (manual boost controller)
3) CAMS
4) Flash (your choice)

Heh, yeah, someone should put up a sticky with all of the acronyms.

VTA = Vent to Atmosphere
DP = downpipe
LICP = lower intercooler pipe
IC = intercooler
alky = alcohol/water/methanol injection
mbc = manual boost controller
ebc = electronic boost controller
HKS RS = junk (oh, damn, did I just think that out loud?) ... err, open element intake made by HKS ... not needed on stock turbo

Last note ... if you are concerned about a droning exhaust, then start modifying it from the turbo backwards, meaning that you get the downpipe and high flow catalytic converter first. You will gain some power and it will stay quiet. If you ever want more power, then adding a cat-back exhaust is easy, cheap and can be done at any time.

...forgot about that one. Have a good alignment shop set your car to 0 toe all around. Camber will depend on your driving style. I maxed out my front camber at -1.9 degrees and -1.6 rear camber on the stock suspension. You may want to dial in something more conservative to lessen tire wear (maybe -1 front camber, -.5 rear camber).

ok anohter question here...and this is after a lot of searching. the only none-performance mod i would like to get for my car when i first purchase it would be a new BOV. yes i know its kinda performance but not for my purposes. i have to admit nothing sounds better to me than that long "PSHHHT" when your changing gears. i heard a clip of HKS but it sounds like crap if your not pushing your car to hard.....it just like flutters. horrible sound. i heard APS is a good brand but im not sure. i dont want somehting incredibly loud but something definetally noticeable and gets soem shock value. thnx

The sound you're looking for is that of a VTA BOV. Install at own risk, your car will most likely end up idleing like crap (some Evos are worse than others). Evos are not designed to accomodate VTA BOVs, they are designed to recirculate the vented air back into the intake. If you hear an aftermarket BOV fluttering (kind of like a cha...cha...cha...cha sound, then that is usually a sign of compressor surge (again common with VTA BOVs and BOVs with too stiff of a spring). This is something you want to avoid at all costs, since it causes a lot of excessive wear and tear on your turbo.

^^ yes.

An aftermarket intake can be tuned around, but it really won't gain you much if anything on a stock turbo and it can give you a crappy idle (though most newer intakes seem to have gotten better as far as idle goes). A VTA BOV, on the other hand will give most Evos problems. An Evo can be setup to handle VTA, but I'm guessing that you're not willing to spend over a thousand bucks just to make your car go PSSSHH safely.

i read in many threads that the APS is the exception to this because it still recirculates. it only vents to atmosphere under WOT. i mean its not a true VTA but many members said its having the best of both worlds. your opinion on this specific mod?

Sorry, can't comment on the APS, since I haven't seen one in action.

I've run the Greddy Type-S and now Type-RS on my car (both recirculating) with good results. I have seen quite a few VTA BOVs on Evos retaining the stock MAF (mass airflow sensor) ... all with compressor surge. I've seen the AMS Evo setup, which uses a MAP sensor and AEM EMS for engine management ... no surge on their VTA BOV, works beautiful, idles great, but it's an expensive setup.
