it should be like that shouldnt it? the boost goes from 19psi to 16psi so there is less torque as you reach higher rpms and its reflected in the dyno graphs in other posts.

What I'm noticing is that if you put your foot in it early (< 3000rpms) you in a way, flood the engine. It pulls a LOT more when you are in the throttle only about 1/4 to 1/2 until the turbo is fully spooled and then above 4500rpm, put it down more.

That problem probably has a LOT to do with the intake and the exhaust being so restrictive. I'd bet that the problem goes away with an upgrade system on both ends.

Fireball,

That is what I have seen with the 4g63. The 14b and 16g respond very well to less backpressure and add to the yummy "pulling" feeling. The biggest smile I got from my stock Talon was when I added a K&K intake and a 2.5" turbo back exhaust with a test pipe. (hello boost creep. ) All the other mods have been subtle in comparison. You still have to ensure the turbo is spooled up, but once you get it going with intake and exhaust ............ great fun!!

The best way to drive this car based on what I have done IN MODERATION..(sorry, still in break in period) is to "ROLL" the turbo.

Much like what I mentioned to Fireball in a recent phone conversation.

Don't mash the prdal down from low RPM's. Rather, "roll" the turbo, and let it spool up and then give it at about 3200RPM when fully spooled.

This car still has a little lag. You really need to make sure that you keep the car in the spoolband, and avoid the 5,000RPM or more shifts cuz there really isnt as much there! The shifter is so precise, that you can just poke it in gear working the peddle ever so lightly to keep the turbo "finessed".

Mash the peddle from a dead stop, and you will go slower off the line. Take it about 3/4ths there THEN give it as the car moves on, and your eyes will open just like the wastegate!!

It's called turbo lag.

depress clutch.
Rev to over 3.5k
Release clutch.

Feel the power

Sounds like the dynos of the 3 Evo's by Vishnu Tuning are correct in showing they are running rich. The Evo needs more airflow to lean things out or, if left stock, the fuel curve needs adjusted to lean it out for more hp. I'll bet you would get a noticeable top end gain then. Mitsubishi put a safe tune on the Evo. An intake, exhaust and chip should bring huge gains.

I've never heard of such a thing where you stay off the throttle until the turbo spools?? That's rediculous.. Guys, this is a fuel injected car controlled by a computer... I've driven a turbo DSM for 10 years and owned many different kinds of turbo cars.. Get on it from the beginning and dont let off even for (extremely) fast shifts... You'll see what the car has to offer... Make it work for you, not the other way around... That's just my .02 from my experience...

heh ok that is cool i will work with it and see waht gives the best results i think maybe a boost conytroller and keeping it at 19 to redline like ppl do in the wrx putting it to 15.5 in all gears to redline give is way more power instead of how it tapers off... i just hope they get some good mods for the car so i will be happy in the long run

Another thing is to remember that this computer has learning capabilities like the WRX... When mine was stock I had other owners in my car tell me that mine was much faster than theirs.. But that might be because I drive hard and drive fast... Hence, the computer has "learned" to keep the maximum output, maybe?! Hope that helps ya a little...

Hi!

I think there are two separate discussions and a least two threads occuring. The first is turbo lag. I have a ported 16g and if I just get the car rolling at 2,000rpm in 1st gear then WOT, there is a delay until boost and fuel systems catch up. That is turbo lag. If you can WOT from any RPM and not get turbo lag and it is bigger than a 14b then ...... well. ..... I want your turbo.

The second issue is power above 5,000rpm. Has anyone hit the rev limiter yet?
