Here is IL law on exhaust...thoughts?

It is a stupid law, but whoever decides that this is going to be a law makes people feel all warm in fuzzy inside because we all know that its us in our modified cars breaking all the laws, so cops get to us before that happens
MA has almost the exact same wording in their law.
I got a ticket when I had a Buschur Axle-back and everything else stock.
I contested the ticket and won. Basically, the magistrate (initial guy you contest ticket prior to an actual court hearing in MA) threw it out.
The "idea" of the law is that people don't modify their exhausts "to increase the sound" explicitly. For example, drilling holes in the muffler just to make it louder. If your aftermarket exhaust is metal and in constant operation, there is a judgement call on whether it's louder or not. The officer should have decibel readings to compare your car to the stock version.
Anyway, my advice is to contest the ticket if you can, it will probably get thrown out.
Good luck,

The law states that you can't modify it so that it is louder then OEM, you mention harley's etc but they are loud as **** from the factory
I actually got pulled over for no front plate and got a warning for an HKS I had on my ep3. I questioned the state trooper about it and he told me that it can't be louder then stock etc. I then asked him if he had a db meter to in fact measure the db rating...he basically shrugged it off.
Without actually measuring the db level, idk how one can actually get a ticket...but it is written so loosely...:-\
