Review of Buschur Stage 1 Install and Tuned
Hey all,
Just wanted to give you a review of my trip up to Wakeman, Ohio to have the Stage 1 kit installed on my 2005 Evo MR.
I started about 200 miles south of Wakeman... in a small town called Cincinnati. My brother and I woke up at 3:45am and hopped on the road... hoping to be there by 8:00. If you make the trip to Buschur racing, here are some hints... Be sure to take the right detours and DO NOT fill up you gas tank at the Shell station right by there by the Buschur building... I found this out the hard way... more to follow!!!!
I arrived at the facilites at 8:15 and handed my keys to Dan. He had my car up on the lift, installed the Stage 1 and back in the parking lot in less than an hour... I was amazed. I spent alot of the time looking around at the cars in the parking lot, and playing with the "eliminator" tree they have in the waiting room. when the Stage 1 install was copmlete I spent some time waiting for Al to get to the shop and get all set up to tune the car on the Dyno.
Al arrived and got my car all wired up... they put the car on the dyno to tune it... the car was knocking... turns out the gas at the station (V-Power Shell) is GARBAGE. David told me he wouldn't even put that in his lawn mower. So that really hurt my ability to make great power from Al's tune. Al, I am sorry that we were unable to tune this as strong as it could have been, but now you have a 91 map
Side note: I currently have a complaint in to Shell about this... and will continue to badger them until I get a response... I will keep you all posted if something comes of this.
The strongest pull I was able to get was 233 @ 6750. This was basically on water downed 91 oct... with the High flow cat. Both David and Al seemed concerned that the number wasn't high enough... and with no baseline we couldn't get the overall gain number. Basically they did to my car what they do to everyone else's, but my numbers weren't as high... and neither of them were happy, which I appreciated. They truely take pride in what they do. I let them know that I am not looking to throw dyno numbers around... they are ulitmately meaningless... as I could go to a dyno-jet dyno and be closer to 300. What I wanted was that WEEEEEEEEE feeling when you get on the gas. So I took the car out for a test drive...
WOW... is all I can say. The nubmers were low on the dyno... but the car pulls like crazy... and the power curve is so smooth... it just pulls and pulls until you shift. Also, not sure if the intake is fooling me with the sounds of the turbo being louder... but it seems the turbo is spooling up much quicker. The sound from the exhaust and the Forge BOV is flat out mean! All in all I am very happy with the way things turned out... BUT... I will always wonder how the car would have done with real gas in it. Maybe next time Al is in town I will be ready to go with a test pipe, and I will have decent gas in my tank. Al what would you charge for a re-tune later in the future?
David and his crew are some of the nicest most genuine people I have ever met. I would recommend this place to everyone... and if I ever needed anything done to my car again... I will not trust anyone but Buschur Racing!!!

Thats awesome...I cant wait to get Stage 1 installed on my 04, just need some time to save money, maybe after x-mas I can get it done. Least now I know I wont be without my car for more than a few hrs
kick a$$ thread. i wanted to hear from a nother person ponit of view on this kit and i got it. thanks if freakin awsome. i have been going back and forth on who i should go with. Buscher or AMS? so far i have my eye one Buscher. so how did the exhust sound? what all did you get with the stage one kit? because you wrote about a bov when buschers stage 2 kit comes with that. thanks for the info and good luck on your future up grades to your evo.
Nick, Thanks... I will need a retune on some good gas though... if I want to lean the car out more now that it won't be knocking... This will be down the road quite a bit though... as right now I am VERY satisfied with the performance of the car.
travman, as far as the speed and turnaround of the install... I was able to have it done in one day because Al was there to tune the car. If not, they have to send out the ECU to have the flash done, which take a day or two... (I think that is the case).

The Stage one I got had the full 3" exhaust, turbo back... with high flow cat and magnaflow muffler. This sound MEAN, but at idle and on the highway it doesn't have that drone that is annoying in most fart cans. It is definately a deep clean sound. It also came with the filter kit, boost controller, and boost gauge... when they were tuning my car they noticed the stock BOV was leaking, so I upgraded that while I was at it, to the Forge BOV... now it is holding strong.
I have heard that AMS is a very good at what they do... I have no direct experience with them... BUT I am a picky consumer... and was 100% happy with the work that Buschur's did.

That's funny, shell V-power is rated number one fuel and is all I run in everything I own. My Evo runs better with V-Power 93. Maybe you just got a bad batch from that station.
The post made under Nick's name was by Al. He must have thought he was still signed in under his name.
It was nice meeting you also Tim.
I'll get that Car and Driver disc on its way to you the first of next week.

The Shell V power is all I use also... I got a bad batch from that gas station... never use that gas station... I put Shell in still today, just from better gas stations.
Al, Thanks for the offer, hopefully I will get up there again sometime... Maybe for the Stage 2
Jarrod, Thanks... I look forward to getting the disc, there are alot of people around here that I want to show. It was really nice meeting you guys too. If you ever want to take your bike for a long ride... or get that Evo... come on down to Lebanon... I show you around.
Revhappy... this was a new Forge Motorsports BOV... it is pretty loud, but driveability is the same as stock (with retune, etc) only the boost holds better.

When I went down there I made sure to fill up at the sunoco station so I could get some more 94 oct in my tank. I would have to agree with you though they know there ****. When my car was down there David did a great job tuning my car. It actually gained a little over 70whp from the tuning alone.
Must have been a bad batch of fuel. Up here in Minnesota I have used Shell V-Power 92 octant since tank #2 in my car. I don't put anything else in it and have yet to have an issue.
Would you guys recommend BP 92 instead of Shell V-Power 92?
