Works Rims

Hey i was looking for to put some 18X9 Work Meister EVO SR2 18x9.0 Rims on my EVO ( the ones on the Lancer Shop website ) . Or lets say that i am saving for some , they have a hefty $2750.00 just for the rims ( i imagine, they didn't mentions tires ). Before i make the decision to go through with such a major purchase i was wondering if i will have any problems with as far as fitment on my car. Will they rub on the fender or the strut, other post didn't really say. Does anyone have any 18X9's on their vehicle ? And can someone please explain what people mean by offset ? I DO NOT want my rims sticking out past my wheel well like i am some 1980's gangbanger. I want them to fit flush, like stock. Any help or venders out there with any experience on this sort of fitting ?

18x9 will stick out a little bit or so at stock ride height. Lowered will be less noticeable and more flush.

So should i just go with the 18X8's then ? I know all it is , is a bigger contact patch but i am wondering what it is worth . Also why would they sell this wheel for EVO's if it wouldn't properly fit the car ? I wish Lancer Shop was on rightnow so i could ask . Or is anyone from Bushur on right now ?

You will be fine with 18x9. (Hey, that rhymes!) They will fit but you might be sticking out a LITTLE as said before. You *MAY* get a bit of rubbing if you run 255s, but that can be cured pretty quickly (I run 255s with no problem, but some have reported slight rubbing). If you are going to upgrade wheels, you should upgrade in width over diameter from a performance standpoint. 18x8 is cute and all but offers nothing but extra weight (on some wheels).

But even still what you are saying is to go with width and not size. Wouldn't a 17X9 fit the same 255 *** the 18X9. You may say , "Yeah bt the rim won't be so big ,so it won't come near the fender or strut". Width is width isn't it ? Then if i lower it won't it be the same as having a bigger rim ?

Err, I guess I should clarify. Yes, a 17x9 would fit the same (in a width sense) as an 18x9 for the most part. At stock ride height the fenders are higher up off the ground and "appear" to be less flush with the wheel. Once you lower your car an inch or two the wheels "appears" to be more flush with the fender. Plus you will be adding some camber, etc. When all is said and done, your wheels will be fairly flush with your fenders.

Unfortunatly i really can't stand my stock rims. I mean they are alright but the don't have certain something that appropriatly complements my car. I was gonna go with 18's just to fill some of the wheel well spacing till i got some Teins but i am really so torn right now i don't know what to size to get . I mean i know horse power will make up for the little extra weight i get with 18's and i did want to put some grand turismos on her later and whats even crazier is that i have seen people with 19 in rims on their cars . I thought i was going a little over board !!

Hey, you don't HAVE to listen to me. Lot's of people run 18's and I think 18's are fine on an Evo. I do think 19's are overkill, but if someone wants to run them, it is their choice, not mine. You will be fine with 18's and I am sure some of the nicer lines (ADVAN, Volk) will have a 18x9 that is lighter than our stock wheels.

Oh, I know you aren't.

Z1 Auto, Bulletproof Automotive, Gruppe-S, Vivid Racing, and more(!) should all be able to help you out.

Here is their lineup: http://www.yokohamatire.jp/yrc/japan/wheel/

Is it the 9 in width that is the problem with these or is it simething else. would 18X8.5 work ? Cause they have some 18X8.5's for some of these other rims !

Do they stick out of the wheel well any, are the flush like stock rims, or did you have to roll your fender ?

PS WHAT THE HELL IS OFFSET AND HOW DOES IT HELP THIS PROBLEM ??

It would be the tire size. Ideally you would want to run 255 or higher on your 9" wide wheels and it might cause some rubbing. A bit of light fender rolling would cure this, any decent shop can do this for you, its not a big deal. if you are worried though, get some 245s
