Smack dab in the middle of the midwest, where everybody knows your name, but nobody knows what the hell an EVO is....

I think the dealerships are facing a tough proposition... EVO's collecting dust on the showroom floors!!!

With the kind of markups going on, they really aren't selling all that many locally from what I've heard!!

Base MSRP is $28,987 and the destination charge is $595

The optional carbon fiber wing adds $480

The optional sunroof adds $750

That's where the "Total $30,812" figure in that photo comes from. You could eliminate the two options and the sticker would be $29,582 - that would be the lowest total you could expect to find on any EVO's window sticker. So far I haven't seen one EVO without the wing, so realistically the lowest price out there is $30,062. Has anyone else seen an EVO with the small wing yet??

It may at some point be possible to haggle your selling price down further than what is on the sticker, but the guys at Browning were pretty frank in saying that there really isn't much room on the EVO between Invoice and MSRP as compared to other cars in it's price range. KBB lists the base invoice price for an EVO at $27486.47 for a difference of just $1500.53 - that is a pretty small margin on a $30,000 car. In comparison, the 350Z that the original poster bought had a $2566 difference between base MSRP and Invoice.

Plus it has to be cheaper then the Sti. If Mitisu thought that the car was worth $35K and they could always get that price then that's what the MSRP would be.
I still believe my original statement is true. If you spend 5-10K above sticker you're going to feel like a real idiot in about 6 months when you see that others have paid sticker or below.

BTW

The 350Z Track is worth 35K. Not everything is aboout 0-60. The 350 is a complete different type of car then the Evo. If it was only about performance everyone would be buying that fast Neon. Looks, feel, quality, etc do matter.

Also I paid $28,000 for my enthusiast Z and it has everthing I want.
It's a matter of opinion on both sides which is how I worded it. It's my opinion. Most people will tell you the interior of the Z is cheap. Plastic feels weak and most compartment doors feel like they will fall off. I had a deposit on a Z. My friend owns one that I've ridden in many times and I've driven as well. You're right it's not all about performance and we both know the Evo outperforms it in every aspect. Go sit in the Evo and you will see the interior is actually quite nice. And the car is more practical. It justifies 35K much more so than a Z. The fact it runs on a 4 cyl is a big reason why it's so much cheaper.

It's all relative boys.
If you have a six figure income $5000 is not much money.
No I don't make that much money but it is true.
The price will come down when demand comes down.
That may be next week or next year.
Dealers commonly sit on cars for months.
Just because you want it now does not mean they have to sell it now.
I know it hurts but it is true.

My 2 cents

I think a lot has to do with where you're located. I live in Iowa which isn't exactly an import hot-bed. If you live in So Cal or the north east I would make a little road trip. You can fly for a few hundred dollars to place that is selling them for MSRP and drive it back. Another plus is you'll get some break-in miles this way.

Just my opinion but most people who make 6 figures are not looking at the Evo or the Z. And if they do make six figures that probably means they are smart enough not to pay 5K over sticker.

I would disagree. For those with a 6 figure salary, the EVO and 350z make a great sunday driver (AKA weekend racer)

The Z is a better looking car than the Evo in my opinion. No doubt the EVO performs way better than the Z.
Even with the fast and the furious 2 coming out, the price cannot go anywhere too far because it needs to be competitive with the STI. I personally think we will see some kind of price deflation in the months to come...hence, DON'T PAY TOO MUCH OVER MSRP

I have a six figure income and I want an EVO. However, I also have the patience to wait for the price to be right. I'll be buying one after I can compare to an STI AND I can buy one on the cheap.

$5000 is STILL a lot of money to me.....

I'm actually looking forward to going up against one at the strip. .2 seconds difference in the 1/4 miles is not much and if it takes a 5500 rpm drop of the clutch by the Evo to get this number I want to be part of the action.

I also would like to see how they would do on the autocross track by my house. I have a feeling they would be a lot of fun to drive. I drove a WRX on the track a couple of years back at it was very quick so I can imagine that the Evo will be even more so.

The only thing I've noticed flimsy on my Z is the navigation door. I've owned nearly every kind of import and the high end luxury cars were the only ones that felt better to me as far as doors. The stereo does suck however. I wish they would have just left it out of the car. The lighter is in a crappy place. The ride is semi-punishing but that's what I get for buying a sports car.

OK maybe I'm wrong but from what I've seen over time MOST 20-25 year olds don't make over 100K (Less then 3% from Money Mag) and I just can't picture a 40 year old driving around in a car with a 4 foot wing off the back unless it's a superbird.
Once again maybe I'm wrong. I haven't even seen to many people over 30 driving the WRX. Maybe it's where I live but I do travel a lot.

I'm 34, and ya I make a little more than the average joe. But I have been eyeballing EVO's, Lancia Delta's, and Ford RS's since I was 10 years old. I actually want this car because of its heritage and what it can do, rather than to be any kind of symbol. WRC (even back in the 80's) always had wild wings and such, and I certainly think it belongs there. I learned in the last 5 years that I really don't care what other people think, especially about my car...ironically, at 27, I probably would not have bought this car because at that time I would still have had something to prove. Now, not so much.
