Thanks for the heads up, I'm not really too worried about it at the moment because my school is literally down the block and so is food shopping, and thats pretty much all I need to go to right now. (Well, to the bar but I can always borrow my friends beater civic for that )

This is off topic as it relates to snow driving, but I wonder what would be the best setting for drag launches to help preserve the integrity of the diff, possibly better hooking the car up once bigger power is made etc... Or does it not matter while driving in a straight line?

Hi! I've noticed a difference on "snow" setting - it does give you more control over ice and snow - I can feel it, it has more "grip", but them I drive very curvy mountainous roads regularly, where you feel/watch for the slightest change (like where they repaved last year and it's slippery, so now you can't take that turn at 60+...)

Hi! I'm in Arrowhead - I would recommend NOT driving the Evo in Advans to Big Bear when it's anywhere near freezing. I know people have done it, but the Advans do get rock hard once it gets below freezing. I've driven the Advans on ice near Running Springs/Heaps, and they do handle well once warmed up, but it wasn't as cold as Big Bear. The ACD snow did help, and I drove 30-35mph on two inches of ice, some gravelled (no salt here for those back East!)
Chain control will check for M&S tires, without them you'll have to put chains on the Advans, depending on the level of control. They may let you go through with the AWD if you show them the chains. Since the 11 hour pile up last winter near the Arctic Circle, they have been stricter.
Alternatively, if it's snowed, and roads are clear mostly, and no further snow in forecast, driving up on Advans should be fine. Just don't leave in the early morning, or night when the tires might freeze. mtnracer

ACD only really kicks in when you need it (aka when you are in "trouble), or going around a track in the rain (??)

It definately affects the turning of the car when you push it.

OFF TOPIC-

but when the ACD(or AWD in general) finds thats your rear right tire is slipping will it turn that specific wheel at a different speed to stop the slipping and tell the fronts to pull more?

Because I've done some slides and my friend has seen my tire do like a slow turn and even in a video I posted a while back people asked if I pulled the e brake because the the back wheel was locked and practically stopped moving and only did short intervals.

Actually, that's not what I noticed - perhaps you're thinking of LSD? I can "feel" the increased grip on rainy/sleet/gravel on mountain roads very clearly - less so on dry pavement, but still noticible. When on snow, it does understeer.

With the ACD on snow I drove down the 18 at 55mph with the drenching rain last spring - Evo handled like a charm, drove like my Eclipse on dry pavement! The ACD was great on the 330 too with all that muck in the road last year. I haven't had it out in true snow yet - so we'll have to see if the Pirellis will be enough. Good news is that it does so great on ice!
Be wise coming up though - performance cars are being targeted currently.

Did anybody have to sign a waiver saying you will not put chains on the EVO and if you do and have problems Mitsu will not cover?? Had to sign it when I bought my 8 about 2 years ago.

Weird.. In the owners manual it says tire chains can be used only if their Mitsubishi tire chains and they only go over the rears... or fronts...not sure but I think the rears.
