Basically the replacement HIDs would be D2S bulbs on 9006 bases.

so these aftermarket kits won't have the nice cut-off like the factory HID? is it worth it to get the factory HIDS? i don't understnad why Mitsu doesn't offer them separately.

No it will not be perfect as it may refract the light incorrectly and blind
on-coming traffic.

I was looking at the FSM. I can see the parts required for an OEM upgrade.
I'm going to call Huntington Beach Mitsubishi and see if they can order
the parts.

I'll keep you guys posted if interested.

In the meantime, I installed those Sylvania 9006ST Silverstars Halogen 4000K.
Actually pretty nice. The problem is that they may not last long.

I just picked up a new 9. To install some hid's, you have to drop the bumper?

That's no biggie, I've already dropped the front bumper.

I just want factory HIDs.

i noticed that my stock IX headlights have a "cut-off" per se with the halogen lights themselves. but i guess it's just not the same as the oem-HID cut-off?

also, do the actual projectors on the non-SSL and SSL headlights differ (i.e. is one specifically designed for the HID's?)?

I'd just find a set of HID's off a stock evo opposed to putting the HID's in a non HID housing. You won't get the hotspots and it'll be LEGAL as well as safer for the oncoming drivers.
