in our area we get fallout from the steel mills that leaves rust colored specks all over the car. clay bar and keeping it waxed resolves the issue.

if you've only had the car a couple weeks, your chances are good they dealership will take care of you.

what several people have already said, it seems mostly like rail dust contaminate. A professional clay, polish, and wax session should be in order.

I have never heard of people "claying" their car until i came onto this site. Where can i get this and who makes it? What does it do actually?

clay bar can be found at any auto parts store, i think walmart and target might also carry them. mothers clay bar is the most popular clay bar.

i havent read all the posts here but, if this hasnt been said already it might be ur prob. sometimes they ship cars over on a train, and the tracks give off dust that has iron in it from the actually track itself. when the car is still new the paint is soft and the iron floating in the air sticks to the paint . that might be where the rust is comming from. a clay bar will more than likely take it off. i have this on my car as well but its not noticeable unless u look really hard.

Your better off just sucking it up and getting the car repainted yourself. thats gonna be the quickest and painless solution.
With that attitude there is not a dealer out there that would help you.

I'm hoping a buff job w/ addition clear coat(praying is the better word )
I'm a little late with this but that is why I asked about it. It sound like industrial fallout or rail dust. And even if you don't have this, claying is how guys get that mirror finish on painted surfaces. It takes a little work but the results are worth it. Most definitely DO NOT BUFF!! A little clay and water, some time and you will have the best finish you have ever seen.

Good luck with your issue. I'm sure mitsu will take car of it since you said you've only had it a couple weeks anyway. Don't worry about it .

As a salesperson I would fight for my customer to get the clay work done by my service department! I would call your sales rep and ask him (nicely) to get this accomplished for you! I feel that they should fix the problem for you!

What do you say lancerdealer?

Get a clay bar kit like others have said, meguires comes with quick detail spray which acts as the lubricant, car shampoo could also be used, the clay bar is like a big piece of blue tac which grabs the contaminants and pulls them out of the paint.
It is definitely worth getting one try it in a really small area first before you take it back to your mitsu dealer to see if it will work and so you can get a feel for the bar and what it can do. Then take the car back so their detail guys can take care of it, which they should have been done in the first place.
Good luck

If he purchased it there then I agree. If not you want to talk to the service manager. The svc mgr is the guy who has to make the decision and he is also the man to contact his rep to get it covered under warranty. Depending on his self authorization level he may be able to do it without getting permission from the rep. If he is not self authorized then he will have to contact his rep to get the ok. If MMNA says no dice then ask if the dealer can take care of it for you on goodwill. Depending on the severity of it it might only take an hour or two and then you are good to go.

As Mark said a good sales rep will get it handled for you. A good sales rep will want you to sell you a car every time you want one. A good rep will make you want to buy any car from him/her. If the rep sold you the car and nobody else will help then put it in terms that he can understand and maybe he has a favor that the detail guy owes him.

For the record folks, these things should be a no brainer IF you have a good relationship with a dealer. If you don't for whatever reason get one. If you have an attitude like NOLIMITMOTORS we can tell and we are under no obligation to help you. Even with a good relationship there are some things that are not fixable. If you are a resonable human being and you treat the PEOPLE at your dealer the same then you are more likely to get help. Obviously that does not include stupid people.

I'm done now.
