Buschur gets in on Time-Attack at Button Willow

yep its embarrasing slightly.. but still If mitsu or another car manufacturer was serious about competing in this competition they would have won.. Its pretty lame that GM goes around picking on a bunch of tuner shops to promote their cars, obviously no one else but GM would ever waste the time or money trying to prove the cobalt is the most superior sport compact car on the planet by winning time attacks.. pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

I suppose a Camry Solara would really have kicked *** because they have RWD, tube chassised, Supra 2JZ powered ones with 1500hp, right?
Okay, that's a better example, I was not aware of it. But I would still think it would get beat by a prepped Evo, or Skyline or maybe even a Subaru.

It was GM this time, most companies practice this.

We are very happy.
I would love it if someone could find all the official numbers and post them.

Okay, I do realize GM has tons of money invested in road racing development. In vehicles like the Corvette and the GTO, however. If someone from cobaltSS.com or wherever had come on this board a month or two ago and suggested that a modded Cobalt could go toe to toe with a modded Evo on a road course and hang with it much less beat one - they would have gotten laughed off this board. All the normal "Crapolier" "AWD is God" "Evos rule" "FWD is teh suck" comments would have been flying all over the place. Insults would have been thrown, names called, maybe a couple of Cobalts and SRT-4's burned in effigy, and the thread closed.
Now that it has actually happened, its "Oh, well GM has tons of money invested in the car." Whatever. It kinda like some of you are saying they could have brought out a hopped up Aztec or Silverado K3500 crew cab dually pickup and gotten the same results if they dumped enough money into it. All I'm saying, I never thought the Cobalt itself could be made into a competant road racer, and it is suprising to see one win overall, especially since it is a FWD car. A FWD has never won the event, and it isn't a Honda. Impressive.

My friend and mechanic Vesko (a fairly serious Road Racer and Time-Attack driver) was installing yet another clutch when we started to get the idea for running Time-Attack events in my drag car.
The next day I ordered a gt35r turbo and fully built stroker motor from Buschur. The motor is a work of art, beautiful.
We intended on building the car with more than enough time for testing and track tuning before Button-Willow on November 8th. Things did not go our way. We got the car together and road worthy a week before the time-attack and broke in the new motor on the drive from Salt Lake City to Vegas. Dave and Jarrod were both in town for SEMA and the man himself tuned the car on a Mustang Dyno at the Horse-Power House.
The rest of the week Vesko tore all the four door family car pleasantries out of the Evo while waiting on the suspension. They were putting stickers on when it was being load in the trailer.
The intention was to win the AWD Limited Class and Overall. Vesko took a practice lap on my Falken street tires just to make sure nothing was going to come apart. The car was solid.
We changed out the tires to a set of Hoosiers to have another run in the unlimited class. Vesko set a 1min 52sec pace which took 1st in the unlimited class and 2nd overall. He felt the car losing power at the end of the run.
We then swapped the Hoosiers out for Toyo RA1’s and started chasing the limited class title. Vesko started strong but finished with a naturally aspirated Evo. The gasket between the exhaust manifold and turbo blew out. That run was still good enough to take 2nd in the limited class just behind Tarzan.
The GM backed Cobalt drinking more NOS than gas took the overall. It was sic.
At the end of the day the scorecard reads:
1st AWD Unlimited Class
2nd Overall
I want to thank Buschur Racing for their effort to bring this together.
Vesko… great job for building the car and driving like a madman. You did an astounding job on the fabrication and suspension work.
You all know were to find Dave.
