wrecked my Evo
wrecked my Evo
Hi all,
Last night coming back from dinner with my friend and on our way to drop her off at her car. I was going around 50-60 mph rounding a slight right hand turn that crests and then drops down a hill. In the northeast we had a really drastic drop in temperature yesterday and the advans must have been a little hard, maybe I lifted the throttle too much. In any event, the car lost traction and slid to the grass on the right. I corrected but there was just too much momentum and it slid across the road to the embankment on the opposite side and went up over the front of the hood. It then rolled and flipped over and skidded to a stop on the front windshield and roof.
Miraculously, both me and my passenger walked away basically unscratched. She had a bump on her head and I had a cut on my hand. The car is still running but it is totalled... I'll post pics later but in the grand scheme of things, this seems so unimportant now.
I was irresponsible and stupid. I should not have been going as fast as I was under any condition, especially with it being so cold and knowing the limitations of our tires. I am just fortunate that my beloved car saved me from my own stupidity, a true testament that it is a far better car than I am a driver. Furthermore, while clearly things could have been worse and I could have been injured or killed, I shudder when I think of how catastrophic it would have been if my friend would have been hurt or, even worse, if I would have walked away unscathed and she didn't. In fact, as I think about it now, I probably deserved to lose a leg or an eye, or to sit in a wheelchair for the rest of my life; In away I almost feel bad for walking away from this with just a ding on my hand. But as the accident happened, all I thought about was that in the next few seconds I may injure or kill someone I really cared about, and I would have never forgiven myself for that.
I can say confidently that this car, our beloved evo, has limits that is beyond 90% of its drivers' talent. So please, everyone, be careful. You might get yourself hurt, or even worse, hurt some innocent bystander or someone you love.

I'm glad to hear you and your friend were not harmed in the accident. Accidents can be eye opening, life altering experiences. I was in an accident as a passenger in my friends car nearly 8 years ago that still affects me to this day. It truely is amazing that the two of you walked away. It absolutely sucks that your car is destroyed. Hopefully insurance will cover it all. I wish you luck. Keep us posted bro. Accidents happen. The most important thing is to learn from them.
Glad you and your friend are okay. A friend of mine rolled his Electric blue evo too. He came out without a scratch but his friend riding with him was in critical condition. Hearing stories like these makes me calm down more and more on the throttle every day.
Glad you and your passenger made it out uninjured. The stories I've been reading about the Advans winter performance definately has me thinking twice about my speed around every corner.
sorry to hear that man, yeah people just need to think cautiously even when people in the car want to go fast or take chances.....its on you in the end...not them.
sorry about your car, but glad to hear everyone is alright

thank God you were both OK. don't think you deserved worse than what you got, be thankful that you didn't and realize that maybe there's more in this life you need to do before you go. the situation still sucks, even if it was preventable. hope everything works out for you, please keep us posted.

dude that totally blows!! Good thing you and your friend came out unscathed. I have all season tires on my evo with the stock rims and I still feel the car lose a little traction turning corners when driving - especially on wet rainy roads - its the oil that resurfaces on the streets that makes the road feel like black ice almost. I realized how much I had paid for my Evo and finally started driving with common sense now. All I have to say is just because we have all wheel drive doesn't mean we don't have to adjust our driving technique to the climate or surroundings. Be aware......
Thanks for the support everybody. The location of the accident was on the corner of 320 (Swedeland Road) and Jones road in King of Prussia.
I am just really really really thankful for everybody being ok. I really don't know what I would have done if I would have injured someobody or worse.

I'm glad you and your friend are OK. Accidents happen and as long as you learn from them and no one gets hurt it's not that tragic. It sounds like you're learning what you should from this experience and will be better off because of it.
I'm surprised no one has started telling you you're an idiot yet. That usually happens within the first ten posts of stories like this on here. EvoM going soft or just showing a kinder gentler side?
