Rude Dealership
Tonight I went to San Diego Mitsubishi to see the Lancer Evolution for the first time in person. When I walked onto the lot a salesman came up to me. I told him I wanted to sit in the Evo to feel the Recaro seats. It turned out there was one white Evo in the showroom. He took me inside and I sat in the seat. I'm tall and really skinny so it didn't hug me as much as the R-34 Skyline seats but that's ok, I realize that the seats were designed for the larger American frame. I got out of the car and let my girlfriend experience the seat as well and she liked it but felt it was on the large side as well. I then remembered and said outloud, "The HIDs have an adjustment switch". I asked the manager sitting on his lazy *** next to me at his desk where it was and he said, "In the car." I then responded, "Well.. yah of course but where is it located near?". The manager pointed to the car and responded ever so helpfully, "You can see it." I was pissed ...
I've never gotten such rude treatment from a dealer, even my girlfriend thought I should have said something to him. I walked out and here I am relaying to you all.. Don't go to San Diego Mitsubishi on 4761 Convoy Street. The jackass of a manager there just wants your $$$ and if you aren't ready with money in your hands, he won't even treat you with respect.
(BTW: He locked the door so I couldn't go back into the car to even see the HID switch inside anyways.)

Realistically, he prolly didn't know where the hell the control was anyway, if he even remembered there was an HID adjustment switch from watching the training video.
Boo on that manager.
Boo on that manager.
I have been to several dealerships throughout CA (I live in both San diego and Orange county and have come to the conclusion that they are ALL horrible places to get a car. Besides the outrageous markups throughout this state they are without a doubt some of the shadyest people to talk to.
My 2 cents
PS anyone know of a way I could obtain one if I had 30k cash.

Funny thing is, this is the worst time of year to buy a car. Winter is always awfull for dealers looking to sell something. Usually this time of year you could expect to be treated better not worse at the dealer. The flip side of this is that if you gave the vibe you had no plans to buy the car, I'm sure the manager was a surly *** to you. I'm sure he lost a prospective buyer, if not today, one day in the future. Very sad for Mitsubishi.

yeah i've been to the dealership on convoy street when i was visiting my girlfriend last year... i remember this phillipino kid came on to me, his first day at work, trying to sell me the white evo inside the building... then the manager comes up and tries to sell it to me for 35k... when i refuse to pay the markup, he makes it sound like he's doing ME a favor by dropping it to 32k... wat a buncha BS.. so i just said thank you and left... oh atleast i got to try out their demo yellow evo (which had 3k miles on it already).....
Don't take it personal. The guy could be stressing over stuff or needs to get laid. Who knows. My dealership was very rude and I fought for 4 hours for my price. By the end, the sales lady didn't even want to speak to me since she couldn't close the deal, the manager did. I guess they lose part of their commission when that happens. Screw 'em. I don't have to deal with them anymore. If you get your price, go for it.
haha, yeah the one on convoy sux. I went there to look @ the evo and they only had the floor model. So I was lookin @ it and the first thing that caught my eye was the 2k markup. And the salesman came up to me and said "interested in an evo?" and of course I'm like ...."yeah...." He then responds "maybe someday you'll be able to afford one." Then I just had the biggest smile and said yeah ok, and left. And in the next 3 days, went to Bob Baker Mitsubishi in Carlsbad and bought the car and paid in cash. Bottom line, they couldn't sell a car @ San Diego Mitsubishi if their lives depended on it.
Oh well.......
When you decide to buy an Evo, be sure to stop by for a visit and Thank the salesmanager for helping you not waste your money at his dealership.
Remember they need you to put food on the table, i'm sure if you went in at 3 o'clock at the last day of the month they would have treated you alot better.

Yeah thats how most mitsu dealership are. Everytime I drive by the dealership it just looks so dead. I never really had a bad incident at mitsu but the atmosphere seems so unwelcoming.

Whats the story with 'markup' in the US? Every car that gets sold by a dealer in Australia is at the recommended sale price, or cheaper as the dealer is competing with the rival dealer in the next suburb/town. They may offer you no discount, like with the Evo, but they can't just add 5K to it either.
The only time you ever see markup is if some canny investor/scalper buys a limited edition vehicle as an investment, holds on to it until they are all sold out, and then puts a huge margin on it and screws the poor guy that really wanted the car but missed out. Thus, private sale.
I can't believe your dealers can get away with that - i'm sure it would violate our consumer code in Oz.
