i got my evo because i wanted to be different. we all could have looked "rich" by driving 3series instead of evos. but i didnt want to be the "rich kid with the bimmer" at 20 yrs old. its just distasteful. so in that sense drive an evo because nobody knows what it cost and it sure as hell isnt just another 3 series

No, I don't relate what car you drive to your portfolio or wealth. Plenty of millionaries rolling around in old cars.

Im 25 and I work at a mercedes benz dealership and i would have to say that i do get respect from the salesman there especially those who know cars.....but the only one who prob thinks im rich would be the 25 and under crowd....I did get it with the SSL to give a little luxury feeling to it....i think if i added a DVD navigation system to it...thats all i would want in a luxury car...haha

ok too bad if u own an evo ur not poor either!! not many families or people can afford cars that are $25,000+!!! evo's are expensive cars and if u own one then u DO have quite amount of money, cuz maintinence in not cheap either!! all im saying is that a $30,000+ car is expensive to afford.

don't agree. 3 series couldn't be more generic and common...

I think the average American family will spend anywhere from $20-25K for a "new" family car

Most people think I'm a douche bag for having a park bench wing.

$30k is average for a decent car these days. Hell most full sized pickup trucks are almost $40k.

Used EVO's are selling for $20k right now. Thats cheaper than a loaded Mazda 3.

I don't really care what the main stream people that don't know anything about performance cars think about my car. A lot of people I talk to don't even know what our car is, but they change their opinoin of it real quick once they get a ride. I agree that it comes with age, the younger owners are probably considered rich amongst their peers, but as an older, late 20s, it's just a fast car that beats most cars under$80grand. I won't consider myself rich until i have a 360 modena in my garage

I have the only evo in town and my 2 best friends drive an STI and a 3 series. It's funny, because everyone asks my friend with the 3 series if he gets a ton of *** because of his car and he always responds with "no because wherever i go i have Nick in his damn evo taking all the girls." Lots of people think that an evo, sti, 3 series, etc. are expensive cars for us 16-17 year olds, but around here i see kids driving 5,6,7 series, g35's, 350z's, ferraris, maseratis, etc, so some people think that my car is cheap. It all depends on how old you are and where you are.

I seriously doubt anyone thinks I'm 'rich' for driving an Evo. At 50+ years old, a $30,000 car isn't exactly extravagant.

yeah, on the days that I work (working professional here), the truth comes out I'm not as young as I am on my days off from work

Haha.. yeah I have the same problem.. FWIW I see you drive by every so often on New Hyde Park Road or Union Turnpike.. My car is a Black Evo, black rims..

Here's my take on it.. People definitely seem surprised that I paid 30k at the time for a mitsubishi, many are more impressed at its performance than its appearance. For the most part, it doesn't look like a 30k car.. If I'm hanging out "bumming" with friends who are younger than I am, there is a perception that I'm wealthy.

I think a person's perception of whether a person thinks your rich or not, is more about how you present yourself to others, the car can be part of it, but its also your appearance INSIDE the car.. if you look young, then they think your a rich kid who got a "gift", if you look older then its just another 30k car (Since that's around how much a decent car is nowadays)

I'll let you in on a little secret.. the wealthiest people usually don't look it.. and the people who do look it, are generally not wealthy.. Its noticing the details about a person that usually you can tell.
