evo vs. new 330i

ok so im looking at the specs and what not, and from what i see.. the evo and 330i could possibly be similar in terms of power. 255hp vs 276hp. If you think about it, since the evo is awd, more power is lost, as opposed to the rwd 330i, which loses less power, and for those screaming weight weight weight, the evo is 200 lbs lighter than the 330i, so it's like having a passenger in your car.

so tell me what you guys think? could it possibly be comparable?

but im just saying, i know the evo is a quicker/faster car. but the 330i even though not known to be powerful is getting some power. so im just saying, if you were to put FI in the car, im pretty sure in a str8 line the 330i would be a good opponent.

EVO - 276hp and weighs about 3200lbs

330i - 255hp and weight about 3400lbs

evo loses more power because it's awd.

how is it not comparable? and i am just talking in terms of a str8 line.

it's just not fair in corners, it's like picking on a lil kid haha. so yea.

More girls will notice your BMW and more dudes will notice your Evo. Unless you live in a big city where nobody gives a damn? Either way, I say go with the Evo.

Not even close, not on a 200 degree day in the desert. Im sure the 1/4 mile for that car is somewhere in the 14's. Evo's are 13's so you get the picture.
That car doesn't have the gearing to keep up with an evo, its meant as luxury, not speed.

Not sure what you're asking. First of all, you're going by published CRANK numbers, which is useless. You have to go by WHP, gearing, and weight. The only thing you really know here is the difference in weight. The difference in gearing and WHP are yet unknown (at least to you). Also, the 330 can come in AWD. Then, if you are excluding the AWD version and only talking about the RWD version, then yes, it will have less parasitic drivetrain loss, but that's why WHP is what matters. The Evo's 276hp (05's only) is in reality 240-250whp, which means the published crank numbers are very conservative. Then, since you're talking "straight line" performance, don't you realize the AWD gives us a huge advantage off the line vs a RWD car? That would mean the 330i would have to overcome a HP disadvantage as well as a weight disadvantage just to stay even while having much less traction. Ok, so if you remove the launch and are talking about racing from a roll, then there's really no point in this thread to begin with.

This is a pretty stupid comparison. If you're comparing to BMW, I'd say the M3 is as close as it gets performance-wise

Well, the 330i is definitely luxurious and fun to drive. It just isn't comparable to the Evo. If you have 35-40k to spend on another 4-door sports sedan, then that's a good choice. Another would be the IS350...

apples and oranges

330i is a lux sedan; and, evo is a perf sedan. go to your nearest gas/petro station and see what type of people arrive in 330's versus evos. BIG diff.

well we all know about the m3, i had an e36 m3 so i know the e46's are comparable. but i would have said m3, i all i would have seen was "SEARCH" and what not, so i picked the cloest thing possible. and took all the evo advantages away, and said a str8 line, which the evo still wins. but if you were to put an SC or TC on the 330i, then watch out.
