I think it probably depends on the owners attitude. I personally am not going to try and make my car look like something it isn't. Like the s15 front end conversions for s14 240's.

That said I've only met one person with a Lancer that was trying to be an Evo and he was a tool. It was at a car club meet. I pull up and I was the only Evo there. Most of the people were cool and were talking about car stuff in general.

This guy pulls up with an unpainted fiberglass Evo 7 kit that looked like it was popped out of the mold with a stick of dynamite and a chain saw and proceeds to talk sh*t. I thought WTF did I do to bring this on. The first words out of his mouth were "Whose Evo?" So, I said "mine". Almost before I finish saying that he comes out with " I'm on the waiting list for an MR. It's better than that one." (The MR wasn't out yet) I just said "Well, I've got mine now." and left. What a dick. He still doesn't have an Evo.

I think the subaru guys are even funnier. A lot of wrx's get the body kits to look like the sti, and even put all the sti stickers on. They can be very hard to tell apart. According to the subbie guys, any aftermarket part produced by subaru is part of the sti brand, so if they have one aftermarket part they can call their car an sti.

So if you blow away a sti in a non-street race, make sure it really was an sti.

I'm just sick of ppl in general thinking their car is much faster than it really is. Just like evogod21 said, I know better than to challenge a skyline or something. I had a bone-stock looking cavalier rev on me the other day....in the rain!

I see more F-Evo's (fake evo's) than real ones nowadays. Most younger people can't afford this car so I dont take it against them for buying the cheaper one and making it look good. Maybe they don't want to go fast? I dont know.

Either way they are always giving props, so I couldn't be an *** and hate on them

it's flattering. if the evo wasn't a cool car, no one would try to imitate it, right?

I wouldnt say i hate on them.. just feel a little embarrassed for them. I mean why try to make your car look like something its not? Id understand if they did other body kits, but why make it look like a evo, to the point where they have a fake FMIC that leads to nowhere... Thats just silly IMO. But i guess if they dont care what people think about them.. why should we? Even though we might be the older brother here trying to push them in the right direction .

It's a hobby. Everyone has their own style and appeal. If you spent the time and money doing something to your vehicle to make it your own then you get respect from me. Now if you do something that just looks gawdy then that's a whole different story. Can't we all just get along.

Its not too far of a leap to make a Lancer look like an Evo. I've seen a Mirage that had a body kit to make it look like an Evo, right down to the 'Type Evo' license plate.

I don't care who makes their car look like any other car.

My only problem is if they then go out and race people, who then think they killed an Evo... Or some Civic thinks he kept up with an Evo. Knowhati'msayin?

yeah, the only reason i started this thread is because of this one:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=170796

at one part he says "how fast can a 4 door really go? so why bother with power" or something like that

and another part was saying he was concidering a fake intercooler

for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way and i thought that if i was an evo owner id think of it to be really retarded

the other thing is that some people are suprised the me being an ES owner would start such a thread, but let me just make it clear that i know the difference between trying to be something your not and doing something unique, trust me ive dumped quite a bit of moolah in my auto, but im also treating my car as an individual, i know what i got, and i know its slow, but its still fun to do stuff to it like some minor engine mods and suspension mods, this is why i think doing an evo7 body kit is so rediculous, personally if i did that and pulled up next to an actual evo, id be ashamed in some aspects, but thats just me

I think modifying lancers is just plaint a waste of time. I mean if you want to put a radio and subs and rims and suspenion so it looks nice thats one thing. But trying to make it fast is just a waste of time and putting evo parts on it like dressing up a piece of **** with sugar. in the end, its still ****. the lancer is probably a great car for cruising around, mpg, etc... but I think its very distasteful to put evo parts on a lancer.
