exactly bdking57, i wish those lancer fanboys would understand the difference. but usually their argument is "well evo is a lancer too, so it's like the same family so we might as well make lancer look like evo". i'm sorry to burst the bubble here, but it's similar in certain body panels and crappy interior, the similarities end there.

a similar example is when ppl with integra LS or GSR put integra type R lip on. that's still ok because it IS practically the same car and u can make an LS or GSR perform as well as, or better than type R without too much trouble. the lip mod in this case is similar to putting a vortex gen on a non MR evo.

and hey, if ppl r buying the lancer because it appeals to them, by all means, help mitsu outta their hole.

i only drive a lancer because i cant afford an evo on my measly pay. im a butcher, i really am ashamed i bought the lancer i did, but at the time my car had died, and due to money and family probs, i had to make a decision quick. and i didnt research into a lancer, and i feel bad i didnt. but i am glad im not one of millions of honda owners who make honda look bad. but i did drive by an evo, and he saw my lancer, gave me a thumbs up, and i as well, and then made a sad face about my car, and he revved up and took off. i thought it was a nice gesture, he didnt show me what i cant have, he showed me what i can look forward to. yeah, the evo and the lancer are miles apart, in many aspects. but dont be harsh on the kids who wish they had an evo, there just imitating what they like. remeber what the biggest form of flattery is? but, the kids who take it as far as a fake intercooler, or somehting cosmetic that makes no difference, let them do what they want. i respect their individuality and decisions. but i do get a good laugh from certain things, dont get me wrong!

Our cars are Lancers yeah true. Ours is a Lancer whatever yours is a Lancer Evo, theirs is a Lancer Ralliart. Its still a Lancer. Yes! Yours is ballz out fast fast! Yes! Ours is tail tucked in slow! Yes! Theirs is quick! But if you stick in a turbo in ours 250 HP is NOTHING to sneeze at. Yeah, it is a 2 wheel driver but still 250 is nothing to overlook. Not all people think "I have a Lancer I can kill all!" I know my car can be beaten by most but I feel at least I don't have an overated Honda. Like another person said before people don't try to race you to race you. They know they are slow they know you are fast. They want to see you go. I would never try and race an Evo, or anything of the like BUT I would always love to see them blaze past me any day. I would love to hear them rev their engine.

Yeah, I'm planning to get an Evo 7 front kit but I'm not stopping there. I'm eventually going to go turbo with all the bolt ons I can afford. Its one thing to have your car look fast or like a fast car, its another to look like a fast car and be fast!




And for all the damn people saying, "Well instead of buying a Lancer and getting bolt ons+turbo you shoulda got an Evo"/stupid voice. If I could have gotten a damn evo I would have! I got my Lancer for $13,000 a top of the line Evo will run me what....$35,000? I'm still paying for my Lancer and getting mods here and there. Lets say I could afford an Evo but just barely. Where is my money for mods? Where is my money for liesure and girlfriend? Where is my money do treat myself to something special? I am only 20 and in college, how the hell am I supposed to get an Evo? Save whatever money I am using for bolt-ons/turbo and put that for a down payment? Please, do the math!


If I want my car to look like a respectable car (unlike a 86 pointiac fierro looking like a Lambo) and be respectable at the same time the nthere should be no body trying to hassle me saying "Its still a Lancer OZ". Yeah, its an OZ but you have to respect it because its fast now. My goal is to build a respectable car since I can't afford one. The evos are not gods but something I like. I'm not trying to make my car god just something I like.

Now, don't get me wrong! I don't want my car to be an evo! I am proud to have an OZ. Whats wrong with having a Lancer OZ MR? not for "the mitsubishi racing edition" but just for Mitsubishi Racing because thats what I intend on doing with it.

I must say it doesn't bother me much. The ONLY thing that bothers me is when someone asks me if my car is a REAL EVO???? People are like is that a cheap knock off....and I am like know it is the real thing. I can understand modding your lancer, that is fine, but don't try and make it look like an EVO. Why not go with a different look and not try make your car look like something it is not. Why not be different and make it look like something totally different. I am a all go no show type of guy though.......Hence no body alterations just engine/suspension

Do whatever you want. It's your car, your money and your choice. Personally I don't see anything wrong with making your car look or act like an EVO or anything else for that matter.

 

sorry, but this is completely false. i owned a "real" type R for 2 years. and i saw loads of people with GSRs and LSs spend loads of money just to make their cars almost perform as well as a stock type R. what made the type R special was its chassis, which had many many reinforcements and modifications.

 

I don't know why all the Honda bashing. There's a lot of very fast, very good looking Hondas out there. Plus it is a very reliable car and great for what you pay. I would never buy a car just to be "different".

Someone who doesn't know much about cars would call any car with an exhaust a "fart can". So it doesn't make you or I different than the "fart can Honda" in most people's eyes.

 

i always go by the "to each his own" moto, but i gotta rant, this little **** in a base 05 lancer alays is talkin ****. Just bugs the **** outta me, when i drove by his house one day at 10ish in the mornin, and he was holding an intake, and i drove by again 1ish and him and his dad were still out side holding the intake. Just upsetting when they talk garbage, but he doesnt know how to put a freakin intake on his car. <end rant>

 

To each his own. I have seen some nice clean-looking Lancers around. Good drop, nice 17" wheels, tint, etc. However, the ones with body kits which look absolutely terrible that put EVO parts to emblems... one word... poser. Thats just flat out gay. But whatever, doesnt bother me much, I just laugh. I choose to spend my money on go-fast parts, and minor looks department. Why? I think ANY car with just a drop and some quality rims looks great, even Lancers.

Keep in mind, Im not ripping on Lancers, I think EVOs with body kits look absolutely awful. The EVO has such a great look stock when lowered with some rims, I dont know why people bother with these chessey, oversized bumpers and nasty side skirts that make the car look like unproportioned and shoddy. I wish body kits didnt exist, they are the root of all rice.

First off, let me say I agree with bdking57 in that putting a IX bumper on an VIII is *NOT* the same as slapping a VIII bodykit on an ES. Not even close. But, making a regular VIII into an "MR" would be wrong, however.

I don't like Evo bodykits on regular Lancers. If I had one I would try to go for a completely different look. Hell, one of the cleanest/nicest ES's around here has no wing, a nice drop, tint and some 18's - that's it. Looks hella good to me.

I would like to see more turbo/modded Lancers. I don't have a problem with someone wanting it to be fast, or having a high power FWD - just leave the Evo kit off the mod list. I do notice that because of the rift between owners, a lot of ES owners are quick to say the STi is better, or Evo is overrated, or would get beat by X car in bench races. Like the animosity makes them want to see the Evo go down, or isn't all its cracked up to be. But whatever.

 

Not to be "that guy" but you cant touch his EVO unless you have more mods than listed in your sig, like built motor and more boost. 95mph trap isnt going to get the job done.
