There are some issues with the factory ECU from what we can see. I have heard 30-40 HP just in an ECU change. From what we are seeing in the wide band I will go along with that number.

crazy..

A combination of shiv's ECU goodies combined with aftermarket O2 housing, downpipe and exhaust will make over 300hp easy . This is going to be pretty sweet.

For those who do not know who Dave Buschur is, he drives a pro class 7.8 second 4g63 at work.

Just got off the dyno with an EVO VIII. Car made 258whp and 270lb/ft of torque, full boost comes on incredibly quick. Peak boost is around 20psi and drop to 16psi very quickly and stays there. Looks like Mitsubishi was a little conservative on the HP figures they gave out. 12% drivetrain loss comes out to about 290 crank HP. 'Playing around' with a few things and with the car still stock, no add-on parts or boost controller we made 280whp and 287lb/ft of torque. From what we've learned today there are big gains still to be made with minor mods. Dyno plots will be up tomorrow
Pretty consistant with what AMS got. 4hp difference.
Of course you'll get higher #'s with converting to fwd to dyno..you just have to remeber to compensate drivetrain loss for fwd instead of awd...which would be about 12% versus 24+%.
With these dynos and with the posted trap speeds Evos are getting stock...I think it is safe to say they are making at least 271 crank hp. Both these companies think the hp was under-rated..Buschar and AMS both agree that it is in the 290-305hp range.

And here's that quote:

I would say the factory underrated them slightly. With these numbers and figuring only 10% drivetrain loss it gives you 301 hp and 288 ft lbs. From driving the car I would go along with those figures without any arguement.

let me get this straight.. you guys actually believe an awd car converted to fwd and then dynoed on a 2wd dyno is going to give an accurate representation of how much power the car puts out?

no cause if i wanna know how much it puts out i'll take the engine out and put it on an engine dyno

if i wanna tune my car then i'll strap it to a chassis dyno and use those #'s for tuning perposes and forget them when i leave

but i'll remember the HP gains cause thats all that matters

I will say we know a little better the drivetrain losses for fwd vs. the Evos awd..so YES it can be a good representation of what the motor makes. How hard is it to understand? You just take the drivetrain loss that you typically get for a fwd car. Remember crank hp is convrted using % los factor. It doesn't matte if you use fwd or awd..as long as it's done correctly.
Maybe the California Evos do have less hp. I'd love to see some dynos of non-Cal and Cali. Evo's on the same dyno machine. California emissions are more strict than anyone else.

AMS got VERY similar results though. Both are in the midwest (ILL and Ohio).

Lets hear your reasoning for not believing it. Do you have any experience with dyno-tuning? Buschar is one of the best tuners for the 4g63 and knows his stuff. He explained what they had to do to get accurate results for fwd and said he believes it is in the 300hp range.
