OK, thank you for your attendance. I'm talking about whether I want a new MR or a stripped of options 2006 Corvette. The prices are within 5000 in the real world. I very rarely haul more than one adult and have a daily commute of 80 miles on the highway with two traffic lights and live in the flat desert of Southern California. No snow. Oh yeah, not that it matters, but the insurance for the MR (for me) is more than the Corvette. Older guys don't wreck as often (or go as fast). I've driven both numerous times and still cannot honestly make up my mind!!! I love the AWD and turbo. I love the big CID torque. What do you think? Do you wish you would have bought another V8 or does the EVO/MR fill the bill? THANKS!
I actually went through the same decision process before I bought the Evo. I was looking at low mileage ZO6's and found several 12 to 24th month old vette's with less than 5,000 miles. That told me that people buy them and don't drive them much. Just out for the weekends and quickly back into the garage to maintain value.
The Evo on the other hand is made to drive and have fun. We have lots of twisty roads here and the car is just plain fun!
I guess my point is that if you want an American icon muscle car for weekend trips to nowhere then get the corvette. If you want a car to have a blast in everyday then get the MR. Take it to a local autocross event with lots of denture adhesive because you will have your jaw dropping the entire time. Hope this makes sense.

maybe a bit off topic,
from what the owners are saying the zo6 is the real deal. trouble is a z06 runs between 75 and 85k. man I'd like to have that car, but to much $ for me.
And the track guys are upgrading brakes and suspension pieces too.
more on topic,
maybe you will have to drive both cars and see which one makes you feel and look the best.

I have a blown C5, stock cube built motor currently at 711whp, 588wtq with option of running my C5R 427 motor with FI it can easily make north of 1000whp. Car also has coilover etc...
My Evo has the AMS 3076r turbo and supporting mods (Meth addition in 2-3wk), Bilstein suspension.
For daily driving the Evo is more fun, the C5 feel big and cumbersome in comparison.
The corvette will spank the Evo at the track though, it feel better as you go faster.
As the Evo is nearing its performance limit the C5 is just now hitting its sweet spot and then there's the power...

I traded my 2002 Z06 for the MR. I have never looked back. The only thing I miss about the Z06 is the instant respect older & younger people gave me. Where as now I have everyone and their brother trying to race me. Go figure
This MR brings a smile to my face, it is a fun car to drive during my daily commute to work and back And I don't even want to talk about the gas the Z06 ate up.
These cars are totally different animals and I'm glad to have experienced both.
Goodluck with your choice.

are you talking about the 06 Z06 or standard vette? Based on price comparison, it would have to be the standard vetter you're looking at it would seem.
If this is the case, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. The EVO will require more upkeep. Tires, brakes, fluid changes come rather quick on the EVO. But it is a blast to drive. I've driven the new vettes, but haven't owned one, and they just don't seem to be as nimble and forgiving. You can throw an EVO into a corner too fast, and recover easily. Not so with a vette.
The biggest difference I see, is what the general public thinks about both cars. Only those in the know will understand the EVO for what it is, the rest will think you're some punk kid with a big honkin wing on the back of your car trying to be cool. But the vette is different in that regard, it's those that aren't in the know that think the car is cool, and those in the know probably think you're just going through a mid-life crisis! lol, I'm gray haired to, so I'm familiar with that feeling. Generally speaking you will get more courtesy on the road in the vette vs. EVO, there are plenty of drivers out there that think they can generally drive like an *** around the EVO, thinking is just some punk kid in it. But you don't drive that way around a vette, porsche, viper etc.
I'd go with the EVO, unless of course you're talking about the new Z06. That's no contest.

For 80 miles on the highway, my vote would be for the corvette. It feels more comfortable on the highway. Although logging a lot of miles quickly will cause the vette to lose more value.
You cant compare the 2. I have a decently built mustang and a lightly modded 03 EVO and can honestly say I love each car in a totally different way.
A good comparo would be to compare a chic you pick up in a bar take her home for a 1-night stand or even a consistent booty call to a girl you would have as a solid girlfriend. Both are great but when you have one you want the other.
I am not 50+ but I drive the EVO daily in Chicago about 80+ miles a day as a daily driver and have considered many times to get an 03 cobra but cant get rid of my EVO. I love her too much.
So, I apologize that I have not helped you at all. I must admit that I was embarrassed drving a rice burner for the first couple of weeks.
