If you have Viper 5000 and/or Alpine 9853 Please Read
After searching, I noticed many have the Alpine and a few had the Viper 5000. If you have either;
1. Viper 5000-Worth the premium over non- two way system and/or any problems?
2. Alpine 9853 (glide touch)-Worth premium over 9851 (w/o glide touch) and/or any problems? (This will be quite opinionated on glide touch but for those who have it, like it?)
If you have had either of these for over a couple of months, please let me know your expereince. Thinking about getting both installed at same time as an Christmas present. Need to decide by Thursday!
Thanks for your input.
If you get Alpine and Viper for your evo for Christmas YMBA8N!

I considered the 9855. I have the SSL package, but not going to be using an ipod (not now anyway). I have read a few people say the sound is improved dramatically by only upgrading head unit. Have you had any problems with the tilt face? There was a recall on some back around May-July. I have been a little concerned with that.
I am currently in the middle of installing the Alpine with glide touch. Still installing it. Works ok for the couple of times I've had it on. The glide seems a little touchy so far but I'm just new to it.
I have the 9855 it takes getting use to but a great cd player. If u want something simple the alpines not for you. The sound quality is a lot better once u figure out how to set it up.
Im not familiar with the viper 5000 I install dei python alarms all day long. There the exact samething just the remotes are different colors. I think your refering to what would be the python 700 its a 2 way pager system. In my oppinon the 2 way paging isnt really worth the extra money. They only work probably 5-800 ft If your wanting it to alert you if it gets broken into it may work if your at your house otherwise it would be pointless to me. I would add such features as a digital tilt sensor, prox or what they call a microwave sensor and then i would put a pizo siren inside the cab.

The Viper 5000 does have two-way paging. It has the remote with the LCD screen. Thanks for the range. I think their site states around a 1/4 mile range, but most have said what you have. Also, I read some evo owner state that it would not work very well at a mall where there are several walls to penetrate. That is what intrest me the most. Some would also argue that you would not want to be confronting someone by running to your car after a page (confronting someone with your LCD remote when they have 9mm). I just think it is a good feature if the range was ok, but sounds like range is iffy.
As for the 9855, I know it has color selctions, but as stated, seems a little more than I would need. Its hard for me to justify the price for the glide touch, much less step up to a more complicated unit. (9853 is probably overkill for me, but have room for future expansion if desired later).

i actually have both the 9855 and the viper 791xvr 2way remote start keyless security set up. i work with this stuff and sell it so if you have any questions let me know. the 9855 vs the 9853 you loose a few options like your time correction but most people dont get that crazy in stereo stuff to know what that is, also the 9855 has the digital display, and the buttons change like 512 colors and the colors around the knob and other buttons change amber or green. you can hook up your ipod to the 9853 too. as far as the 791 get viper their systems have the best brain boxes on them. and the fact that they have their 2way systems is nice as a pager type of system. the 5000 im not familiar with to tell you the truth, i think its an old model but im not sure. if you have any q?s let me know pm me.

just had a 9853 installed last night with the ipod adapter. the sound might have improved but not too drastically. so far i like the glide touch it takes some getting used to, but ive had it less than 24 hrs im sure it will be easier. the display matches decently too
