I would love to see '06 Evo 9 vs '06 STi comparison...

Im sure this thread has potential to be tossed around between the two forums while people make projections based on personal biase as to what car they think is "better", but strictly looking at facts I'd like to know what you guys think about the NEW rivalry between the '06 Evo and the '06 STi

personally I think if the Evo VIII was ever just as good (or better) than the STi, the Evo 9 is blowing the STi away. Look at the Evo9 threads popping up, people making 270-300whp with minimal mods, not to mention that the Evo is already a great handling car, that Top Gear and many magazine publications have proven to be better (albeit not by a huge ammount).

Im not at all trying to glorify the car I drive. I would have started this thread regardless, even if I drove a 1985 Geo Metro. I just have a tendancy to believe that whatever closeness there was between the STi and the Evo, has just gotten further apart.

thoughts?

the EVO has always been a faster/better handling car than the STi. the IX is no exception. there was a comparo in road and track this past month. didn't really pick a clear winner although it did say that the EVO outperformed the STi. some people still like the STi better because it's softer. that's what most people don't like about it. as far as performance, the EVO wins hands down, but in the war of personal preference you never know. i personally like my EVO IX MR, and the STi was never even an option when i went to get it.

Like all the comparisons between the two, this month's R & T article says that the EVO is more of a driver's car, more hard edged. The STi is a little more comfortable and the larger engine helps for around town driveability. It all depends on what you want from a vehicle.

I think in the newest motor trend, they said the sti was better, even tho the evo won in every performance test

Are you a buying the car for you or your wife? I heard girls like the little pink STI logo. Honestly though, the STI was never an option for me either...I wanted something I could work on without being limited like the STI is (unless you spend a TON of money). To me, the Evo takes to mods much better than the STI and looks a hell of a lot better as well.

actually, they have improved on the sti as well. the sti is able to run 13 flat because of better aerodynamics, spring rate change and i think it was something else to do with launch control.
i also read, from the nasioc.com forums, that they revised the suspension which sligtly reduced understeer. still reading to get more info on that.

Most of the comparisons have it pretty much dead even with the handling edge going to the EVO. Wasn't the Car and Driver article against the MR with the performance figures being dead even?

the Evo got slower straighline speed in some articles because of the factory rev limiter. the STi's were able to be launched at 6k with an easy dumping-clutch technique, while the evo had to be launched at 5k which requires more skill get a really good launch.

in the handling department the Evo beats the STi by a tiny amount in almost every category.

in the looks department though....yea.

modifiability....yea.

real backseats...yea.

if u wanna keep ur car stock then the STi becomes a contender to the Evo, if not, u know.

it'd be nice as hell to be able to own both vehicles, honestly both are bang for the buck and amazing assed machines....STi as daily and Evo as insane track monster....

it's always good to have dreams so i have motivations to continue working on what i'm working on right now
