I live about 2 hours from St. Louis north in Springfield,Il. We had about 6 inches yesterday. I drove home in it with the advans on. People need to learn to drive. I have had my advans on for 2 winters now. Sure they are not the grippiest things in the winter. But, learn the limitations of them and you'll be fine. Don't be doin 40 mph in the snow and expect to stop semi quickly. I am not preaching...but the advans are NOT as bad as people make them out to be.

Advans make for much more drifting fun!

That is the problem...this site tends to dramitize things badly! The advans are no different than any other directional tire. They arn't some magical tire that isn't drivable in snow. Sure you have to be cautious with them...but they really are not that bad. Take a few trips around in a parking lot and learn the feel of them in the snow.

He survived two winters with the advans so I think he will.

Wow it's amazing how your Advans have lasted two seasons? I barely got one out of mine.

I give up on trying to warn people.

Go ahead use your Advans in a foot of snow. Just don't ***** when you do a set of snow tires$ X 10 worth of damage to your car.

Sorry for junking up this thread :x

Man, you are either extremely lucky or a fantastic driver. The Advans are extremely treacherous in cold weather, even if it's just rain or moisture on the road. I live in Atlanta and after one small skid coming out of my office in a cold wet day, I got myself a set of Conti allweather tires. Frankly, I don't trust them that much either... I must be getting cautious in my old age because I've driven thousands of miles on snow & icy roads in my life, but for some reason, the EVO with the Advans has scared me..... Of course is not as bad as it used to be driving RWD old cars with bias belted tires... That was a whole 'nother thing

Are advans bad in the rain? I seem to be okay with them. Yes there is decreased traction but it is nothing scary

This is true

NOt true, it is almost pointless to try and drift with advans because you really couldn't get enough grip to get it drifting. It is much more fun drifting with winter tires because then you can bite down it to the pavement

Hmmm. When I bought my Evo there were 2 stickers below the driver's window that had a summary of ACD and a warning about not using the Advans in winter. It was failry direct...

I have had experience with both. Winter tires on my 03' bit too much IMHO. I had too much traction and it didn't allow them to break when I wanted them to. I was havin a hell! of a time last night in a Lowe's parking lot. It was WAYYYY more fun in the Advans. Sure you slide around in the advans but...way more fun if you ask me.

I know most people won't agree with me on this. But, this is just the way I see it. Winter tires are the SAFE route...yes. But! how often is there snow really on the ground. Not often...maybe 24 hours after it snows. I had half my advans still left on my 03, when I swapped out for winter tires. Which was a waste of money. I know I am not going to crash. I know when I can have fun and when not to....period.

Sorry to see that bro. It really does pain me to see my fellow evo tuners wrecked cars.
